And think that Fate franchise started as VN with porn. Fate is one of the best selling VN in Japan and anime adaptations like Zero and Unlimited Blade Works were very succesfull critically and commercially. I'm courious how much Fate mark helped F/GO achive such huge success.
A little surprised that Nitroplus don't have own mobage based on their VNs except NECRO: SUICIDE MISSION but that game so far as I know did not get much recognition and TN isn't top N+ VN title. |

Well, D.W. made more than enough money to fund Nasu’s Heaven’s Feel trilogy, and a pair of singularities to boot. Personally I would love to see the SE.RA.PH event receive an anime adaptation of some sort.

You need to take into account that Nasu had been planning for a Fate MMORPG for many years (since the late 2000?), and it's only thanks to that that FGO saw the light in the summer of 2015 (after some delays). You could say that it's thanks to the growing market of mobage that he had the chance to release it, since at first he scraped the idea because of the difficulty of creating a full MMORPG (it needed to be "alive" in the game-story-progression sense, and yet make sense of the summoning system and the summoners, something hard to do with an MMO). |

Almost all of it's success is because of that. It certaintly isn't because of of engaging and thought-proving gameplay. Those kind of games do far worse. 90% of Fate's success because it was already huge franchise and waifus. |

Heavily, but I think the reason behind success is good creative leadership. Nasu said in interview that the staff weren't satisfied with FGO quality in 2015 and decided that if nothing changes they would just kill the game. Thankfully, Shiokawa joined the team and brought FGO to success. So, I think the key to FGO success is not only "fate" or "type-moon" marks, but the game mechanics, raised quality of story that tied to nasuverse (this is led to restrictions in collaborations - devs stated that there would never be any collaboration with works outside of those that created by type-moon, so no love live or attack on titan collabs, sorry) and good quality of content. Also, kudos to guy that said that this game should have full-sized character sprites with cool animations - it fits "fate" a lot more than chibi-style and I think this is one of key to fate success as well. And overall it's very enjoyable experience without heavy monetization scheme - the only place you could spend you money is gacha. You can't level up your character with use of money, nor buy "premium" bullshit, and there's no duels/MMORPG stuff, no powercreeps (when starter characters is still considered to be one of the most useful units - that speaks a lot about staff policy). And because this is literally a single-player experience, you don't requied to follow "meta" and could play however and with whoever you want (with taking game mechanics in mind of course). I think this is a few key points of FGO success (I tried to keep it short - to describe everything probably would require a whole article). |

I'm surprised Yugioh Duel Links isn't higher on the list. Even if the anime isn't as big as it used to be, I thought the card game was still liked pretty well.
