Cunchyroll's plan to dominate the world marches on. But wouldn't it make more sense to show the anime dubbed in Portuguese?

That is exactly the reason why I believe that this idea will not go foward, people here are not accustomed in read legends, but well lets see what will happen, i will try to watch and send my support. |

The fact that they're airing subtitled shows with few actual commercials makes this come across as paid programming. Like the goal isn't to get people to watch Black Clover or Re:Zero on this channel, so much as it is to get them to check out a few episodes before subscribing to Crunchyroll for the rest.
spoiler[They should look into doing something similar in Canada, but actually air the shows dubbed.] |

Funimation didn't allowed since they are publisher and they don't work with Brazil and Crunchyroll only subbed |

Right. Crunchy announced late last year that they were doing French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese dubs of three shows: Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, and Schwarzesmarken. My first thought when reading this article was, "why aren't they using the dubs they already have?" Then I realized, "Oh, Black Clover and Re:Zero are way more popular and approachable than those other three." Hell, ANN's own preview guide couldn't make heads or tails of Schwarzesmarken. Anyways, I'll be interested to see how this pans out. I'll bet they'd love to show dubs of popular stuff as soon as they're able, but if over-the-air subs find an audience (or drive more Brazilians to sign up for a Crunchy subscription), great. BTW. @mangamuscle: your post is the first I've heard of Crunchy doing Russian dubs, though. Which shows? |

TBT I am so green of envy I could pop a vein. I have this information not because I searched for it, but for whatever reason it appears in my crunchyroll updated tab (a bug that is not worthy of calling tech assistance, they must be already tired of me pushing their buttons). Elegant Yokai Apartment. Juni Taizen: Zodiac War Tsuredure Children Kenka Bancho Otome ---------------------------- Sengoku Night Blood A Sister's all you need Dies Irae Recovery of an MMO junkie Fastest Finger First Alice & Zoroku Tsugumomo This series are so much more recent and there are so many that at least a few of them I would like to hear dubbed in spanish. The only logic I can make of it is that either the russian speaking market went gaga over dubs (like a starving islander eating a box of oreos and asking for seconds) and is buying lots of subscriptions thank to the dubs or the son of an oligarch is funding the dubbing. |

You know who really needs a block like this? Canada.
I don't even live in Canada, I just know that their anime on TV pool has completely dried up. |

I'm guessing you don't understand the concept of syndicated programming. Sure, they're likely going to talk about the website, but "paid programming" implies that this block will only ever talk about Crunchyroll. I'm not kidding. You might as well call every syndicated block ever made "paid programming", regardless of how many commercials are being shown. In any case, if the only "ads" in the block are for Crunchyroll's website, THEN it would be paid programming (especially if would include a toll-free number to call, or whatever similar thing they have over there). However, I'm going to assume that they'll still have the usual commercials. OTOH, seeing as I don't live in Brazil, I can't know for certain. I also don't really know how TV works over there (though I have heard of networks like Rede Globo, though probably not Rede Brasil), so I'm going to assume that it's a syndicated block airing separately from the rest of the network's shows. |

There have been quite a few anime blocks around here made solely of anime or mostly compassing anime but never subbed. That's why a lot of people seem to think that the real goal of CR is to use those anime as a way to build interest in its service. RBTV is a pretty small network whose programming ranges from very old anime and shows (Pokémon season 1 and 1950s Zorro level old), the legally obligatory news and a lot of those showy religious things. They barely make a blimp in the ratings and live on cheap licenses. |

I assume you're referring to time lease blocks that 4Kids used to do (they buy a chunk of time they program and sell ads for instead of the network) rather than pure syndicated programming. Some of those shows might have national ads from the syndicator (usually big game shows or sitcoms), but from what I know most of those ads are from the local broadcast affiliate. I'm just thinking how there can't be many ads for non-CR products if they're airing two 24 minute shows and 8 minutes of local content. |

Of all the channels possible, this must be among the ones I expected this the least... well, good for people who do watch it... or not.
But just so people know, Rede Brasil is a tiny open channel network that has meagre audience, distant 5th place among open channel networks (with ratings bellow the 1%), and shows are mostly limited to re-runs of incredibly old anime, cartoons, TV shows, weak variety shows and then... a ton of religious crap saying how people will go to heaven if they pay 10% of their monthly wages to churches with priests who have their own private jets, yatches and beach mansions or something. Just to give an idea, currently here are some of the shows airing: Dragonball Z (aired in multiple brazilian channels in multiple re-run sessions), Saint Seiya (the original stuff, same as DBZ), The Munsters (yes, the one from 1964), The Adventures of Superman (no, not that one... a TV series from the 50s), Planet of the Apes (the original from the 70s), Twilight Zone (the original from the 60s), The Addams Family (original, from the 60s), Fantasy Island (original, from the 70s/80s), Hanna Barbera cartoons... the list goes on and on like that. It's all stuff from 30+ years ago, at least half in black and white. I shit you not, Laurel and Hardy is among the Sunday shows. Most of you are too young to even have heard about this show from your grandparents. I dunno why Crunchyroll or Rede Brasil decided on this partnership, but I'd have to guess Crunchyroll went for the cheapest open network possible (because time on open channel here in Brazil is absurdly expensive), while Rede Brasil is desperately trying to get some new younger audience. Because it's a huge mismatch. It's a mismatch of epic proportions. I'd be less surprised with hardcore porn replacing the morning news or something. Even though the channel has some anime titles there for some reason, we're talking about late 80s early 90s high censored stuff... that's not for young anime fans, that's nostalgia like most of the rest of the channel. Making things worse, a good half of their shows goes around evangelical stuff... an audience that is so far removed from a current anime title like Re:Zero that I don't even know how they'd react to that. What little Re:Zero has in the way of fanservice and moe will already go completely against the religious fanatism and moralism/puritanism of a good part of regular viewership. Black Clover is still a more shounen mainstream title, but even for that I'd imagine viewers of that channel freaking out about a "cartoon for kids" that is relatively violent and involves "black magic" blah blah. Addressing some other comments: For the most part, brazilian anime watchers have no problems with subtitled stuff... current anime watchers I mean. There was a very brief period of time when dubbed anime was big here, and there were some titles on several brazilian TV channels, but again, this was back in the late 80s and through the 90s. Sailor Moon, Sakura Card Captors, Super Pig, Dragonball, Shaman King, YuYu Hakusho... that era of anime. Most recent shows, when released, are subtitled only... though I think Crunchyroll has some dubbed titles? Not too sure, I totally don't follow how current brazilian anime fans watch their stuff , because I've gotten used to english subs a long time ago (thus me being here). What is more puzzling about all this is that usually, open (read public) channels are far more expensive to get a slot on when compared to cable TV here, and it makes zero sense to invest in them to put up new content like that. It's no coincidence that Rede Brasil has so many older shows... those have been all going around several other channels for the longest time to a point it's probably a good deal to air them, for both sides. What usually happens is that TV shows and whatnot from a decade ago or more ends up in open channels, while the newer stuff ends up on cable. It'll be fun to see what will come out of this. Personally, I haven't been watching TV in Brazil, particularly open/public channels, for the most part of the past couple of decades now. Really glad to see something like this happening, but it's so far removed from what people are used to seeing on TV these days that I can't even imagine the reaction. |

And, after some weeks, they announced a brazilian portuguese dub for Black Clover, as I discribed in this thread: animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3083134 Don't know if the dub will going to be broadcasted in Rede Brasil or not (probably not), but, they are producing it now and it's a fact. |

p.s. I must add that since my last post even MORE russian dubs have appeared in crunchyroll, five days ago they added:
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Mob Psycho 100 Bungo Stray Dogs KONOSUBA -God's blessing on this wonderful world! (both seasons) Saga of Tanya the Evil (Youjo Senki) EVIL OR LIVE Then yesterday they added: Seven Mortal Sins (I wonder if it is the uncensored version) Laid-Back Camp KARAKAI JOZU NO TAKAGI-SAN (Skilled Teaser Takagi-san) Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody I suppose if I should say Hurray if crunchy also announces a black clover latin spanish dub, but by comparison we are getting a lot less and afaik Mexico and Russia economy are about the same size, so latinamerica as a whole should get more dubs than russia IMO.
