Lol good. Screw those anti-consumer policies. XBOX needs to change theirs too - they void warranty if you open your xbox. they can't legally, but they'll claim to do it unless you push them. Nintendo did have good reason for their warning, but I'm glad they changed the wording. Third party chargers have been PROVEN to damage the Nintendo Switch. Just like how third party chargers have damaged many smartphones over the years.

Perhaps a future generation might enjoy a gaming industry whereby the self-maintenance of consoles is encouraged as much as it is with PCs. Easily-disassembled cases, thumbscrews, standardised internal connectors, bliss...

So um what took the FTC like 20 years to issue this warning?

Consoles have carried this type of silliness in warranty for many many years.

Probably because these contracts are very long and aren't very easy to read or understand for regular people. There are so many electronic devices and programs released all the time with license agreements like these all the time that the FTC just doesn't have the manpower to go through them and scrutinize them at the level they did.

I am glad they've done it at all though. Sounds like the FTC usually has much bigger fish to fry, so I thought they'd never really take video game system contracts seriously.
