Personally I don’t want it to have an anime. The series is just as good without the need for it to be in an animated form.

I agree. The entire point of all these other adaptations is to promote the original art form. They don't want anime to outshine the puppetry. Besides, considering the complex designs of these characters, I don't think animation would really do them justice.

This is such great news. I was not expecting a staged musical at all since I didn't think it was popular enough. But this has exceeded all expectations. Not only does it get a staged version, but by Takarazuka no less! I was so shocked when I heard the news. Whoever is trying to promote this series is really pushing it hard.

Yah, I think major re-designs will have to happen, otherwise the animators would cry. Not to mention, now that the character designers have gotten a better grasp of designing for puppets, the new characters are more intricate than before. The two new antagonists are gorgeous, but they's definitely be a headache to animate, especially in the action scenes.

Plus, am I the only one that thinks the fight scenes are cooler, precisely because it's puppets and it uses practical effects?

Not at all. In a world overrun with CG, I'm glad something like this exists (not that CG isn't in this show too, but most of the effects are practical). It lends a certain charm to the show that anime doesn't really have, imo.

If only Gerry Anderson himself have lived long enough to see this. I always wondered what would he think of this show after all he is the creator of this style of puppetry.

I didn’t know he was known for glove puppetry. I thought he was only known supermarination.

Ok, maybe not in glove puppetry but Thunder Fantasy does feel like something made in supermarination style of puppetry.

This style of puppetry is known as Budaixi, which has been around for hundreds of years. Obviously they've improved the puppets and techniques a lot over time. It was popularized as mainstream entertainment by PILI (the company that made this production) in the 1980's.

Forgive me for going a bit off topic here, but I wonder how this site manage to get the title of the movie (Thunderbolt Fantasy Seishi Ikken), its main character (Setsumusho) and the title of the first season (Thunderbolt Fantasy Tōri Kenyūki) wrong in the same paragraph.
