Like Cameron, you should take Tsui Hark with a grain of salt. He was also supposed to direct the live-action Gigantor.

Tsui Hark is a great director, but he's had his share of hits and misses. Unfortunately, majority of his misses were American-produced (namely the Van Damme films Double Team and Knock Off).

As for him doing Initial D, he'd better do a good job.

Ok maybe I'm just ignorant about Japan, but aren't the mountain passes that they race real locations? I would hope that Tsui hark would at least use these places for the film or else I would be sorely disapointed.
