I got a Switch, and I'm honestly loving it so far. I tend to prefer handheld gaming over console when it comes to lengthy adventures, so it's perfect for me when it comes to playing a game like Breath of the Wild (which is an incredible game so far, really pulled me back into the Zelda franchise). I've played on the Switch for about 20 hours so far and haven't run into any issues yet, and I'm impressed with the seemless transition between mobile and docked modes. It just needs a bigger library, and thankfully from what I've seen of the release schedule, it definitely looks like it's going to be my top console in the foreseeable future.

Nintendo Switch is one of the finest video game consoles I've ever purchased. And I've bought a lot of them. It's portability is flawless, and it's TV conectivity solid. It's construction is no flimsier then the New 3DS XL. It really could do with a hard plastic screen cover though. You just have to be gentle with it.
So many amazing titles coming down the pipe. Thank god they aren't coming out all at once. That would be mad. Master Blaster Zero next week I'm very excited about.

My friend got it and I played it a lot yesterday (I got Zelda for Wii U) and I like it a lot. The only criticisms I have are the UI being pretty barebones (Which will change hopefully) and the dock has a stupid shape which can scratch the screen. It could do without the front part which i read is just empty plastic.

I disagree on the UI, I think it's perfect because the only function I care about in a UI for a game console is how quickly I can get to the games. It's frustrating for me with PS4 that I often feel I need to jump through hoops just to get where I want to go. Simplicity is king here.
Reports of scratching screens seem anecdotal to me. It doesn't seem to be a widespread problem at all. The only reported problem I'm facing are some Joy-Con desync issues which are annoying to be sure but not a deal-breaker. I don't think the plastic front is a waste either, it both protects the screen (ironically enough given your concern) and more importantly secures the console.
Anyway, I'm absolutely in love with my Switch. It's about as good as I could have asked for.

I haven't bought the switch yet but I do plan on getting it...just as soon as I can find one because everywhere I go there all sold out.

That's neat but considering how supply constrained Nintendo consoles have always been at launch there just ain't much to go on. I was working electronics retail during the Wii launch and pretty much the whole first few months of the Wii launch was just people going up to me and asking if we have any Wii consoles in the the back. I'd respond no. They'd ask if I knew when we would get the next shipment of Wii consoles. I'd respond no. Then they'd either get annoyed at me or just sullenly walk off.
Hope to see actual USA/North America numbers soon.

I bought a Wii U only a year after it had come out and it still barely had any games BUT I was aware of what was coming. At the end of the day, I own virtually all of Nintendo's first-party Wii U games (need Mario Maker and Captain Toad) and all of the significant third party exclusive games (Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade Chronicles X, ZombiU) minus Fatal Frame 5 which I need to get around to getting, and thus it's actually a solid library, certainly not the best or largest but the quality is pretty solid minus the occasional bump (like Star Fox Zero IMHO).
So no, I don't think buying a Switch early, outside of possible technical issues, is dumb. Zelda is already out, and Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, No More Heroes 3, Fire Emblem ?/Fire Emblem Warriors, ARMS, Shin Megami Tensei "?", Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Project Octopath Traveler, and Puyo Puyo Testris have all been announced. That's a pretty good line-up so far. The PS4 got off to a pretty slow start but by now a ton of quality games are out and the first few months of this alone have been glorious.

Okay. If the first one million units sold, I sure hope Nintendo has the second wave nearing completion. I don't have a Switch!

The context for this is that it's outdone every Nintendo console ever. The Wii's numbers within the same time frame give better context. Same thing with BOTW outdoing SM64 in terms of attach rate.
Anyway, doesn't surprise me the thing did that well considering how everyone was hyping it after its reveal (even the nitpickers). The only downside is that this has also brought out the tiresome crowd who insists on downplaying Nintendo's successes regardless of how illogical the complaints are. I.E. the Nintendo Cycle starts once again.

Ok I think all of you need to calm down. The deleted portion has more posts than the not deleted portion of this thread. That's just sad. As is the fact many of you acted just as trollish in your responses to the posts reported. If someone is trolling or leaving bait posts you report them and move on. If they've been reported to just ignore them. You don't respond with equally rude comments yourself. That's what most of you did and it simply makes things worse.
As for you joe_g7 your initial comment and subsequent ones are actually trollish and/or bait comments. You started the thread off by insulting people from another country for no reason and in the process insult anyone who bought a Switch. That's insulting 2 entire groups of people for no reason. You then go on to repeat this multiple times in response to others. You're entitled to think the Switch is crap all you want but tossing out rude and ignorant comments that insult entire groups of people, or specific people here, is not allowed. That's rule 1 here, be civil. We expect people to share their opinions civilly without insulting people.
Now how about everyone keep it civil and calmer moving forward. Thank you.

From the looks of it, the Nintendo Switch is off to an exceptionally healthy start! The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild being a launch title really did wonders!
I look forward to buying the Switch myself one day...hopefully before Christmas!

Regarding the menu, I am guessing there'll be options for customized backgrounds later, like what they did with the 3DS.

Yeah, that's why I took the plunge and got one on day one--I don't know how long it'll take before I can get another one.

There's also the Joy-Con bumper add-ons: If you insert them in the wrong way, they can get stuck, and you have to very carefully press on the tabs inside with a screwdriver (or other flat, strong stick) to remove it, and it's still a struggle. it's why I'm going to put brightly-colored stickers on mine, so I can easily tell which direction to put it in at a glance.

exactly! Now I don;t have to worry about finding one when Fire Emblem and stuff comes out.
Also, I kind of have to get it, even it's not very good, since my Twitch channel is called 'NintendoSwitchTwitch' . But I have no way of streaming games yet (the record button is just for screenshots now)...but ONE DAY ...lol
