I hate to say it, but...it seems like a major missed opportunity for this book to not also have an interview with Kiyoshi Kobayashi. Confused I get the promotional aspect of it, and that's why they talk to Namikawa, but they're already talking to the director of the upcoming Goemon film - either that alone could have sufficed, or they could have done a dual-interview for that part. Other than Monkey Punch himself, just about nobody else has been there since practically day one and continues to work on the franchise the same way Kobayashi has. Just seems like a major oversight to not have him included.

I love Lupin III but there's just no way I would buy the third TV series... The character designs on that show and The Legend of the Gold of Babylon movie are just HIDEOUS...

Lupin's NEVER had the best character designs but they hit a particular low with the third series and its ill-advised attempt to mimic European/Sergio Aragones/Italian-style cartooning. It just doesn't look good to most people!

I'd say of the TV shows, definitely get the second series (the one Pioneer licensed and finished dubbing about half of; Discotek is currently releasing the ENTIRE for show the first time in the US), the Fujiko Mine TV series, and the fourth upcoming Lupin series being released by Discotek.

I can't recommend the first Lupin TV series in addition to the third series. The first Lupin series put me to sleep! It's just not that good. Most of the TV specials and theatrical pictures are worth it, though. Loved the Red/Green jacket special and The Fuma Conspiracy movie in particular. The Fuma Conspiracy is out of print but will hopefully be remastered for Blu ray one of these days... Either AnimEigo or Discotek release is good. I got 'em both!
