...What... Is that a translation error? The content of the last game were definitively not aimed at adult, even saying they were aimed at children is pretty generous. Considering the game would flat out tell you what to do for every single puzzle in the entire game, I wonder what they consider a game aimed at children is?
The story was also extremely vanilla with not a ounce of complexity or depth. The fighting was also extremely simple and far too easy, with the only difficulty coming from the AI having no idea how to play the game.
So... yeah I don't know what he's talking about. Everything about NNK was squarely aimed at children and lower.

I do think there was a translation error in there.
But I also think a story about a kid grieving the death of his mother is not exactly aimed at toddlers.

Japan makes children's media with depressing/tragic content quite regularly; let's not think this is a mature game for mature gamers such as ourselves because of a difference in cultural mores.
I'm much more concerned if this game will be good; about all the first Ni no Kuni had going for it was that it had Studio Ghibli designs. Even Yokai Watch felt more substantial.

Stop. It probably wasn't a translation error. I know adults and adolescents alike that loved the game. Stop trying to impose your elitist attitude onto the general populace.

How is it elitism to consider that adult are above being told what spell to use every single time they have to use one? Do you seriously consider adult that can figure out that they should use a fire spell to melt ice by themselves to be some kind of "elite" people?
And I said nothing about the game being enjoyable or not, I just said it was obviously not aimed at adult.

Your original post was stratifying your own personal gaming experience onto everyone who has played this title. Not everyone who played this game were used to games in the JRPG genre. I remember playing the games and having some difficulty with a few bosses simply because I was under leveled at times. It has nothing to do with being skewed towards children and having barebones gameplay. Point is, everyone didn't breeze through the game like you. And despite you thinking the story was devoid of any value, many who are fans of the Ghibli films appreciated it, such as I. It was a conventional story but the world was filled with so much content and style that I didn't take issue with any of the tropes this game utilized. But I mean, at the end of the day it is your opinion.

I hope it still retains the classic world map style. I know someone would tell me to put off those nostalgia goggles, but I seriously miss the days when I could traverse the vast world maps gradually, first by foot, then by sea, and finally flying. FF and Tales have long abandoned that style, not to mention the low budget JRPGs with only menu-click to access places.

Ni no Kuni was the easily the best JRPG of last gen, I'm so pumped for this one!
Hopefully they don't swarm us with "exclusive" DLC for each retailer like last time, but I don't have much hope of this. Ah well, so long as the game turns out great, I won't be complaining for long.

I am being so, so patient for this. I freaking fell in love with the first one. I kinda went nuts: I have spellbook, a replica of the Mornstar wand, the official cape, a poster/map from Japan, and also the Japanese original DS game with book.
I played through a studio ghibli movie and it was incredible.
