That was awesome. What other country prime minister would have the guts to do this.

It seems to be a thing with Japanese officials. Seattle's Consulate-General dressed as Ash from Pokemon for Sakura-Con's opening ceremony last year.

Apparently the segment was also produced by Japanese singer Ringo Sheena, who is the model for Guilty Gear's I-No

An awesome way of ending the Rio Olympics with a bang: a homage to the famous Italian plumber and adventurer!

Any idea who was responsible for the choir like music that was heard before the video that introduced Abe/Mario? I quite liked it.

When I saw the Tokyo portion, the jazz music that they played for some reason gave off a Cowboy Beebop feeling, at least to me, which made me more excited.

During the scene where the time-lapse video of Tokyo was shown on the floor, there was music - reminiscent of Chant from GitS, but not. My wife thinks it's from Akira. I think that's too damned good to be true. Can anyone verify or disprove? I was really hoping for an Akira reference, given the uncanny overlap.

Whelp, I'd say that segment did its job; I now want to go to Tokyo in 2020.

I thought the most entertaining part of the entire closing ceremony was the announcer saying: 'Wow, all this time I never realized Abe Shinzo was Super Mario.'
