It really should be Haikyū!! NOT Haikyu!!. The u is supposed to be a long u, but when you see the latter you don't know that.

Not 'essentially'--Kageyama IS the other main character. He's explicitly referred to as "the other main character" (もう一人の主人公).

I've always sucked at sports. Always. That hasn't changed with becoming an adult. But I'm always loved moving around; Swimming, biking, just running around. I'm not a fan of sports, not the fan that other people are and certainly not the fan that I am of movies, books, dolls, but to cut out a story before you even watch/read it because" Eww, de sports" is a majorly restrictive way to think.

The Mighty Ducks? Nope: Hockey.
Rocky? Nope: Boxing.
A League of Their Own? Nope: Baseball.
Million Dollar Ba.. Oh, right: Boxing.

It's odd to think that way, especially considering the subject matter of many manga and anime ( How many of those stories are literally about a reader's life?). And besides, if a story about sports is just there to be about sports, it's not a story: It's an instructional manual.

I've heard, time and again, that sports anime and manga just don't do well in English North America and I'm wondering how many people are missing out on good stories simply because they tune out due to something so specific.

I am SO happy that Haikyu!! got licensed. The story really does transcend its genre. I mean I absolutely don't care one iota about any sport, but I absolutely love the story in Haikyu!! because it's all about the guys and their struggles and growth. I've really been looking forward to this release! Thank you Viz!
