I feel like this comic is a bit of a reflection of how Anime News Network seems to equate video games as anime. I mean, sure there's been Pokemon anime, but the games themselves are more popular, there's a higher likelihood she likes the games without ever watching the shows, or that the only anime she watches is Pokemon because she likes the games. I'd at most assume she was a gamer, not necessarily an anime fan (but mostly I'd assume she's wearing it for work.)

I think you're overemphasizing the importance of this comic about a guy with butterfly wings trying to pick up chicks at Taco Bell. It's not necessarily endemic of a larger problem with how ANN views Japanese video games. (I agree with your general points, though.)

And I fail to see the need to tell me I'm "overemphasizing the importance" of a comic. Surely I can state an innocuous opinion without getting negative comments, even if you disagree with my opinion.

I laughed pretty heard at "do you have a taco problem." Whoever came up with that, go buy yourself an ice cream.

Sorry if I came off as negative, I'm a professional qualitative media frame analysis researcher, so by default statements about whether media content reflects overarching media narratives set me off in a weird way. I certainly didn't mean anything personal.

I have just the slightest suspicion that the responsible agent has already done so...

This was great! I love how this happens in real life where you don't know. Great work. Can NOT wait for Burger Time. Now with Pokemon GO I look forward to see if it appears in here

If you express an opinion, people get to respond and disagree. That is the way the forum works. If you consider simple polite disagreement to be "negative" you are being a bit thin skinned.
I doubt the writer (Zac) was trying to emphasize anything but humor in this case.

I find it kinda ironic that this comic and the answerman article in the same week all but mentions food stuff...I think I'm still hungry after all this...>.>

this comic has yet to make me laugh like Nina did, However I am smiling and going I see what you slyly did there a heck of a lot more. I love the whole discussion about if she is a bigger fan then he is.

I'm really glad to hear that man - that's definitely what we're laying down.
Next week we're cutting back to Blume and the cat, then we're back on this storyline for a couple weeks!

That Squirtle looks as if it wants to give the cashier a hug.
Which reminds me...I've yet to challenge the second Gym in Pokémon X... Won't be too long before I get to doing that.

I think a lot of longtime Pokémon fans are aware of an anime at least existing, and have probably watched it at some point, or read one of the manga, but it's true that the two aren't mutually exclusive. There's all sorts in the Pokémon fandom. For example, I'm mostly into the main series of games (although I've played a little Mystery Dungeon, which was fun), I haven't watched the anime since I was younger, and I've never read the manga, although I've read about some of its differences from the game's canon. My younger brother, on the other hand, pretty much consumes anything remotely Pokémon-themed.
I know a lot of gamers who don't watch anime, and a lot of anime fans who don't really play video games. Although there's some games that definitely rely so much on anime standbys, your giant robots, magical girls, hot-blooded young heroes, etc. that I think people unwilling to give anime a chance (or who are maybe exhausted by what they consider overused anime tropes) would probably have a hard time enjoying them.
In regards to the comic itself, I'm liking it so far. ANN and CR are both bringing back that nostalgic feel of the manga inserts in an issue of Newtype, but with lovely colors and home-made webcomics. It's nice.
