Looks cool. Wish they'd finish Hellsing: The Dawn, though. I guess they couldn't since the manga never finished either.

I'm struck by the fact they have the same guy doing music for this as they did on the Hellsing TV series. That gave us a really great OP and a bunch of completely forgettable other tracks.

You might mean un-forgetable?
His songs have a very unique feel and sound amazing, they are very different from what you usually hear in anime. |

Still no mention of it being animated by Hoods Entertainment (under the name Hoods Drifters Studio)?

Looking forward to listening to "feel-it" by Yasushi Ishii in full form without the sound effects from the trailer.

I suppose Hoods Drifters Studio is a studio/spin-off created by Hoods Entertainment specifically for Drifters. There's no mention of Drifters on Hoods Entertainment official site, so they could also be 2 different entities with a similar name. Reposting the teaser, never get tired of that awesome song, lets hope the anime gets it for the OP or at least something as good. https://youtu.be/D6Bs_522x5w |

The OVA has been out for some time now. A few of my thoughts:
1. No matter how good you think your Japanese is, it's going to get a huge work out with at least three different dialects (Satsuma, Kyoto and Owari) which have been coached by a dialect instructor the producers hired for this show. Toyohisa's is especially bad since his Kagoshima accent is so thick it belies its reputation as one of the Japanese dialects furthest removed from standard speech. Since this comic has at least two scanlation groups working on it, the poor translator tasked with doing the deed this October at least has some material to work with. 2. As for the elves, I have no clue what they're saying other than it's some kind of Slavic language (possibly Russian based on "Nyet" for No). Just as well the animators kindly gave subtitles to give listeners some idea of what on earth they're trying to convey. 3. I remember the ten minutes of the Drifters skit which aired years ago after the end of Hellsing the Dawn. The 40 minutes they've produced more or less follow the story but with more elaboration rather than the two fight scenes which the skit covered. Toyohisa's duel with the Commander has to be seen to appreciate how brutal the former's style of war is. 4. As for the visuals, the colour palette for the OVA (which probably translates to the first two episodes for the season) takes a bit of getting used to. Other than that I'm not really qualified to say more about it other than it looks great. The audio sounds good too. 5. Whatever happens, this is going to be an incomplete adaptation since the source material is still ongoing and shows no sign of finishing any time soon. Hellsing took the best part of a decade to go from source material to complete OVA adaptation and it looks like Drifters is going down the same route. |
