(sigh) State Department. What are we going to do with you? The titles you're hinting at in the report feature drawn, pretend children. As long as the inspiration for these images was not taken from photos of real children, I see no problem with this. Lolicon & Shouta stuff is not something I personally enjoy, but I see nothing wrong with someone enjoying drawn characters portraying this as long as those people enjoying it aren't doing it to a real child. My logic has always been that preying on children, especially teens, has, and likely always will, exist in some form or another. I would much rather drawn media exists if it helps to satisfy this fantasy so that real children aren't victimized. |

Ah...human rights report, honestly it feels more like information/opinion warfare that pressures other countries to USA's favor, than say, an earnest report that actually cares the well-being of human rights worldwide

I don't even understand what the issue is. Like Cutiebunny says, this is pretend fictional characters. Drawing and reading loli and shota manga doesn't hurt anyone. It's funny because a lot of the stuff mentioned in this report is also legal in many areas of the US <_< and there are many of those series that even get translated and sold here.

Well, at least the other provisions are good. |

You want a human rights issue? Thousands of people are being abused, raped, and killed in the Middle East on a daily basis, and the State Department has a problem with Japan and their fictional characters?
Ugh. I can't with this Administration anymore. Their priorities are so messed up. Is it November yet? |

The whole "cartoons, comics, and video games" thing jumps out considering those things typically mean complete fiction with no real people involved in anything depicted.

Individual reports are written for every single country. http://www.state.gov/j/drl/rls/hrrpt/humanrightsreport/#wrapper You can select another country to read their reports. They are listed in order alphabetically. Here's Afghanistan for instance: http://www.state.gov/j/drl/rls/hrrpt/humanrightsreport/index.htm?year=2015&dlid=252957 These aren't within the scope of ANN so they aren't mentioned here, but I felt a need to point out that they exist and other countries with more egregious problems aren't being ignored. |

You do realize this report is like 200 plus pages that covers just about every country in the world? |

Ahem. If you check the actual report, they have plenty to say about the Middle East. By no means is Japan singled out. Heck, animated porn isn't even really a major issue even within the section on Japan. The section on Japan is 28 single-spaced pages long, of which the section on animated porn constitutes a whole two sentences, which ANN reproduced in full. You really think any of the candidates would be better on this issue? Especially Cruz who's backed by evangelicals? And yeah like a bunch of people said the report's on most countries including the Middle East. |
