I take it Mamoru Oshii is not a fan of traditional animation, since he has been trying to add CG in whenever possible since Patlabor, and now he has just gone full 3D. Well it's his choice, but it is a bit of a shame.

But it appears not to be advertising anything! Not once was the viewer shown the contents of those cans.

It's Adult Swim. I think that's precisely the point. |

If only Mamoru Oshii's *actual* movies were as fun and exciting as this.

Sure we were, it is essence of anime as processed by a dragon's digestive system. |

What the hell did I just watch? Sin from Final Fantasy X eating a bunch of spear wielding mechs, and then processing them into canned food? DA FUQ?

I second this notion. What the hell was that? I'm watching it here at work with no sound so I'm not sure if I'm missing something that was spoken? |

Funny I did the same thing at first and then popped on my headphones. There really isn't nothing to it I'm afraid. I felt like I was watching some weird Japanese video game commercial, not an advertisement for Adult Swim. What exactly from Adult Swim is this supposed to be advertising anyways? The channel itself as a whole? The Toonami block? I fail to see the connection. Makes about as much sense as if I made a commercial advertising Burger King, and it was me as a giant, picking up and grabbing a bunch of leprechauns off the ground, eating them, and then farting pine trees out of my butt like a machine gun. Bet ya didn't think I'd say something outrageous like that did ya? |

Now there's an industrial metaphor we can all rally behind! |

Well that was neat, and not surprising by AS short standards.
I guess FLCL 2/3 isn't the only thing coming out of AS & Production IG working together. |

It's not that he doesn't like traditional animation, as opposed to CG. In fact, he prefers traditional animation over CG, from what I've heard. And really didn't want to use CG as extensively in Skycrawlers, as they did. It's a matter of him refusing to compromise his designs to make them easier to hand-draw, and so they opt for the CG route. Other than Daryl Surat, I haven't heard anyone confirm this, but apparently Oshii has always really just wanted to make Live Action movies, but because of the nature of his projects, animation was the only financially feasible option available. |

Although this isn't the first Adult Swim bump that has nods to Japan.
Like these for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeoeb-l5dLU https://youtu.be/xhsiXbAF3Bw?t=28 |

Tenjin in Oil. That's what the cans say! There've been plenty of Coca-Cola commercials with cans of Coke where you don't see the insides, after all. |
