Huh, this is a manga that I've been thinking about getting. I'm definitely going to start buying the novels, but I've heard some good things about the manga too.
Makes me wonder if the manga will be adapting the whole book series, or if it will end up ending at an earlier point in the overall story.

I know the manga has only adapted the first few novels, so it's my guess that it will just skip to the last few novels and cover the grand finale of their travels together.

Does anyone know which volumes of the novel the manga adapts after the second arc?

It being over six years since the 2nd season and the light novels are done, I think they have more than enough material to have at least 24 episodes.
Regarding how much the TV series covered the light novels: While I have not read them, I think a series can typically cover at least 2-3 volumes.

The second season covers up 'til the end of book 5 out of the 17 novels. 3 of the 17 are short stories & the last one is actually an epilogue.
They have plenty of material for subsequent seasons, but since it's been so long, gathering the VA's & convincing the original production team & other staff that this series is profitable might be difficult.

Anyone mind explaining how this manga compares to the anime? No spoilers of course.

Anime was made to promote the light novel/manga. There is no chance it will be made unlike inuyasha final act where they said they would end the series in anime format.

The manga's 12th volume covers the events portrayed in the first season's 6th episode or so, IIRC.

I would love to see another season since the 2 leads are the Japanese Lelouch and Kallen.

I've not seen the anime. *Stares at shelf* Well, not yet, that is.

Hmm, I wonder how that'd go. With what people are saying, I would not be surprised if they don't end up adapting beyond what the anime did. And, if that turns out to be the case, I won't worry about getting the manga, and just grab the novels.
Pretty sure that Yen will be releasing the last volume of the novel some time early next year.
But, yeah, I'll continue working through my anime backlog, and hopefully watch the anime soon...

The manga is well worth it. In my opinion, they adapted the story very well, the characters retain the chemistry that makes their interactions so interesting, and the art is beautiful to look at.
I've bought/read several manga adaptations of anime series that I liked, some tell the story at a weird pace, or some have relatively unattractive art, for example, as much as I love Utawarerumono, the manga "adaptation" just didn't have the same 'feeling' as the anime/game and the art kinda sucked. The manga adaptation of Spice and Wolf pretty much sets the gold standard for which manga adaptations should aspire to.
