Yep, this was back when I thought the war would actually end at some point. How young and naive I once was...

What do you mean? The war did end, and all of hanging ropes were tied in the end, all mysteries solved. The world has gained complete mythology of its origin and development, down to its very core.
By the way, I do not agree that the story is "B", it is quite clever, so it deserves "A-" (minus because it is not perfect, of course).
As to anime, I could not possibly imagining buying 50 DVDs (or however many there will be eventually) -- it is not Production I.G. or Ufortable quality of production, whole thing is dragged with slow pace, uneven animation and dreadful fillers.

And we're on episode, what, 417 now? And this arc STILL isn't over?? I'm really glad I decided just to stick with the manga. (Though to be fair, this arc was really long in the manga too)
Since Naruto is still such a cash cow, maybe we can hope for a Naruto Kai someday or something. I really wanted to watch the anime version of Shippuuden, beacuse I thought it would be cool to see some of the fights, but it's just. so. slow. that they're not exciting at all.
Really, instead of dragging out the anime even more, they should just start over and make a Naruto Kai or something.

Well, even though where the anime is up to is still considered the same arc, the war portion is technically over, and has been for about two years now.

I dont know the exact episode (too lazy to check), but it arguably ended when all the dead ninja returned to the grave, leaving only Madara and Obito alive

You'll get used to Maile Flanagan's Naruto, Amy. Hopefully. At this point, I wouldn't have him sounding any other way.

This is how I watch Naruto. I read the manga pretty faithfully when it first came out back in 2003 over here, but eventually I just didn't have the time for it anymore (I don't read much manga). Couple years back I started binge watching all the Naruto DVD sets. Got most of them off ebay. I've bought every Shippuden set from ebay and it saved me a lot of money.
Kind of disappointed how far Viz is behind in these releases compared to the streaming episodes. 12 episodes per DVD set isn't really cutting it anymore. At the pace Viz is at, it might be 2020 and these releases will still be nowhere near completion. That's a pretty scary thought, IMO.
Either way, nice review.
