Why license the unreal engine when they have their own engine to use? Seems such a waste

Other divisions at Square Enix may not have the engine or the staff expertise to use Luminous, which is still in development.
So instead of sitting around, they're moving ahead with other projects on other established licensed engines.
Not to mention Eidos, which Square Enix now owns, can't use Luminous, which is primarily being worked on in Japan. So the overseas teams still use UnReal or their own in-house stuff for games like Tomb Raider and Deus Ex.

Ah ok didn't realize it was still in development. The engine looks pretty good, hopefully it can be scalable to mmo type size worlds and players.

Engine looks awesome, they really need to stop teasing us with that demo though. It looks like it could be a really good game .

This is where gaming going. 4K gaming now; GPUs gonna get better, so are CPUs and API coding getting better too. FF XIV updates could look this good in the future (with powerful enough machine, of course).
