I'll just use this review thread as an excuse to request that, if anyone likes this show, please, please, please buy the manga. There are two more volumes left to be released in English, and DMP keeps dragging out the release dates, most likely, because there aren't enough takers.

I saw this a few years ago. Even though the characters developed I could never get over their initial characterizations and the unreality (even for anime) of their relationship. So I would give this no more than a "C".

How sad.
Thank you for the review! I dismissed this title when it was released, but now I will have to check it out. I get frustrated with most shojo titles because they are predictable and usually the stories feel like they're stuck in mud. (Not that there aren't gems.)
I like that the characters will do more than hold hands and will go beyond high school.

I thoroughly enjoy even the most formulaic shoujo, so this was somewhere on my to-watch list. But I can't help but get excited about a shoujo manga that goes beyond high school. I think I'm gonna order it as soon as I get home.

Wait, two Cs, one B, and one A. How does this make it an A show overall? Granted, plot is more important than the others, but even with that in consideration this should be something of a B-.

Naoki is far more irritating than his mother. He shunned his wife on their own honeymoon to hang out with other people. That's not just being emotionally stunted, that's being emotionally dead.

Mrs. Irie is actually the best character in the entire series. And she's voiced by the incredible Naoko Masuti as well.

There's something about these shoujo heroines living in the same house as their love interests that keeps me coming back for more. Who cares if they are cliche as hell, it enjoyably melodramatic with cute humor. Marmalade Boy is the most obvious one but I like ItaKiss because we follow Kotoko after she get married; something I find to be rare in shoujo manga.
And yes, I found Motoki cringe worthy but the nurse arc in the manga was kinda sweet for me.

Whew, who are you telling?
I've been buying the manga omnibus ever since 2010 and every time I try to look for it online, the latest volume will be sold out before I have enough money to buy it. In fact, I bought the first two volumes when Borders was still in business but now I have to pre-order just so DMP doesn't think ItaKiss isn't worth printing.

I should probably buy this. It would be easier than the manga anyway.
Shame Digital Manga didn't/couldn't continue with the digital colour versions of the manga. Another print title to play a waiting game with from them.

mileage will vary I guess. I simply could not stand Naoki in the leaat and ended up dropping it pretty quickly. And comments like dtm's make me think it wasn't a mistake. He starts are an entitled a-hole who treats a girl like crap all the way to a distant a-hole who takes his wife for granted.
Occasionally I'll see these anime "romances" between the girl and guy the girl makes endless excuses for despite a lack of any real development on his part. I don't see the appeal.

My favorite thing about this series watching it a couple years ago was that it went BEYOND high school. I love shoujo yes but 99.9% of it takes place solely in high school. I kept watch not because I liked Irie but because I loved the goof-up Kotoko.

I agree I found the mom to be one of the best characters as well.

Naoki is a jerk, but in his defense, he does have to deal with a total airhead of an admirer.
