Screw you, screw you, screw you, Japanese moe-loving otaku. Of all the songs from SamFlam that were available, only THIS one makes the cut. God damn moe otaku in Japan. Uggggggggggh. At least the Japanese fans picked the correct OP from Psycho-Pass to include ("Out of Control" by Nothing's Carved in Stone); if we can't have "Falling Down" by Oasis, this song is pretty much the next best thing sound-wise. (Both OPs made the cut, but I heavily preferred the second one over the first.) |

Tatami Galaxy OP, Shiki OP, C OP and UN-GO OP were my picks, sad to see the UN-GO ED and Shiki ED not make the final cut.
Psycho Pass being so recent and the songs being catchy didn't hurt their selection chances. |

As approving as I am disapproving. Glad to see the Ano Hana OP and ED, "Kuchizuke" and "Allegro Cantabile" are here, but shocked that "Lonely in Gorgeous", "Konna ni Chikaku de..." and all the H&C endings are not

Wandering Son's ED isn't on the tracklist, unsurprisingly. At least Natsuyuki Rendezvous' ED is there. (Me and ballads, ugh. Can't help but love 'em.)

Surprisingly, this is one of the very few polls that looks to have gotten it right (or at least, many of the voters had good tastes). The large allotment for the tracklist likely prevented many good songs from getting cut and it is hard to dispute who actually made it. I did not think anything from (relatively) less-popular shows like Kids on the Slope and Ping Pong or largely-derided ones such as Natsuyuki Rendevous and Samurai Flamenco would have found their way on there, but those aspects should not have had a bearing on the quality of the theme songs themselves.
On that note, something could be said for certain series (e.g. GUILTY CROWN, PSYCHO-PASS, AnoHana) and artists (e.g. YUKI, Aimer, school food punishment) dominating the list, but then again, it is more by circumstance and those songs being really good (not to say that popularity did not have some sort of influence in their respective cases…). Too bad Your lie in April's OP debuted after the poll took place, as I am certain that would have made the cut. Zankyou no Terror's ED should be on there as well.
Also, Date Time, really? Just One Life was one of the best OPs of 2013 period and that's what they choose? I'm kind of glad SF made it period since it was such a bomb in Japan, but still. |
