What adorable little characters to represent a company that specializes in porn. Are they females or traps?

I think they're supposed to be like fangirls, so I'm going with cute females.
Not a yaoi fan myself, but I'm happy those who like this can have more. (I'll stick with yuri and other interests.) It does seem just a little odd to me that they'd have mascots though. Do a lot of other companies have mascots and I just never noticed?

With the 801 label's target audience in mind, I'm pretty sure they're both male. Most yaoi manga don't even have female characters at all, so why would there be female mascots? (though if they do turn out to just be fangirl mascots, that will be annoying)

Okay, I'm gonna speak up right now. Why the are so many people antagonizing yaoi? Is it the fangirls or something? Are they getting on your nerves?
Sorry, I'm just sick of people post "I hate yaoi" or "yaoi sucks" whenever there's some sort of news related to yaoi. It does no good to the thread and only creates tension.
Anywho, back on topic, I wonder who they commisioned to draw these 2 characters?

I think it's a combination of the fanbase, the recent surge in over-pandering to the fanbase (honestly, within only the last couple months the manga section at my local Borders has become almost exclusively yaoi, and I know it's not the only place that's happening), and the fact that the titles actually being released (and drooled over in the most intrusive and vocal way possible) are mostly of dubious quality. Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that it was two guys going at it, nobody would care, because most of these stories are dull, contrived, cookie-cutter romances carried wholly on the shock value of being "gay fiction."

Seriously, those aren't good reasons to "hate yaoi". On the contrary, it's childish to hate yaoi for those reasons.
My suggestions to the haters are: If yaoi is not your thing, just ignore it and find something that interests you. Because if you're just going to come in a yaoi thread and start degrading the genre then you're just wasting your time, plus making a fool of yourself.
Sorry if i sound offensive but it really really irritates me when i come in a yaoi thread all the time just to see someone bash yaoi and its popularity. And that means you too, Curtis W.

So it's childish to hate Yaoi because you think Yaoi is crap? Because you consider the quality of the story/other things not up to par? Sound like fairly good and wholesome reasons not to like/'to hate' Yaoi, in my books.

When something irritates you, sometimes it's best to let it out in public. Sure, some people get a bit ticked off, but this is the Internet afterall.

Oh, honestly, if you don't like Yaoi you could at least say so in a mature manner instead of rollingyour eyes and going 'I hate yaoi!' everytime a new title is liscesened. Or in this case a company gets some mascots, which is really no reason to complain.
Do we really need to genre bash? All genre's have their highs and lows, and everyone has thier tastes. You can't please everyone, so do you really have to make a case about if something you don't like is liscesned? Like Richard J managed to say it wasn't his cup of tea without making a deal about it. I don't see what the big deal is honestly ~.~ And just IMO, in response to one person, I don't think shock value is a major player yaoi manga. Some of it is, indeed, sub par and bland, but I don't think the stories are really carried on shock value all too much. But hey, maybe it's just what you've seen and what I've seen~ XP
On the other hand~ they're mascots are cute, though as someone mentioned it's kind of wierd that they go for 'cute' in a label that specialize in porn XP

He just said he hated yaoi, not yaoi fans. Frankly I hate yaoi too Don't take it too personally. As for the mascots, I almost thought of Digi-charat. And what kind of adventures would they do in the books?

Clearly, the majority of the haters didn't hate yaoi because it's "crap". They hate it for the reasons that i bolded on my previous post responding to Nagisa. Heck, most of the haters haven't given yaoi a chance. How do they know it's "crap" and the quality of the story/other things are not up to par when they haven't read it? The majority start bashing it simply because of the word "gay" inserted in it. It's about homosexual love, which is still a taboo to the majority of the world and is being frown upon by many. Most of the haters are simply "gay" haters who hate yaoi for being gay. But of course, i'm not associating yaoi haters with homophobes entirely. There are some haters who hate it because it's getting popular and they see it everywhere in the bookstores. So in the end, it is childish.
It's simple. If you hate something, don't go on EVERY single yaoi thread and start telling the fans of the genre you hate the genre. Most of the yaoi fans who came in here expecting to talk about the subject don't want to read something irrelevent and insulting. (Of course, mine is irrelevent as well, so let's just let it go. I don't want this to become YAOI fans VS anti-yaoi fans, again)

So, do you hate hentai too? Would you complain about the "quality of story" in henta? Yaoi is basically pornography. It's not all sexually explicit, but it exists to cater to the fantasies of women, just like hentai exists to cater to the fantasies of men. (Not to say that some men don't like yaoi and some women don't like hentai, by the way-- I'm talking basic target audience here.)
I'm not saying you have to start magically liking yaoi or something, but I'd be careful about dismissing it so fast.
That aside, I'd like to offer a couple of corrections to this article. 801 Media is NOT the "yaoi spinoff" of DMP-- June is DMP's yaoi line.
Both 801 Media and DMP are owned by Digital Manga, Inc. but they are more like sister companies. 801 Media's intention is to put out more adult, mature yaoi titles, whereas June is geared more towards the late-teen titles.

I'm 46 & a fantasy fan since I was very young. I love Dark Shadows & have all the romnace novel series based on the show. I read them because they were Dark Shadows, but wading thru them ensured I hate the entire Romance novel genre ever since I was in my mid-teens.
I had a friend who belonged to the Harlequin Romance bookclub & they sent her 3 books a month which she eagerly related to me. I distintly remember commenting more than once-"Didn't you tell me about this one before""No, that was "such & such"
I was also a fan of James Patterson, & at a certain level all those adventure stories start bringing in the same trappings.
Point--all genres could be called cookie-cutter. It does get tiring to see everyine screaming about porn every time they see the word yaoi. I remember a time when Romance novels all seemed to have to have a hunky guy ravashing the gal on the cover(saw them in the grocery store all the time) & there was a certain popularity of the rape theme back when also.
Know what? The owner of a local bookstore I frequent (not for books-for import figures) commented the yaoi fans know when it's coming out & they are there that day to buy it. I'll gamble it's the same for that local Borders--they aren't going to stock stuff that isn't selling. If the yaoi section has grown at your local bookstore it's most likely because it's selling. Everyone at comic-con a couple yrs back commented on the explosion of females buying manga. The American comicbook market is largely male & caters to them so the assumption has been gals don't buy comics. Manga has proved the comicbook industry wrong. It's not gals weren't interested in comicbooks, it's that comicbooks ignored their interests. When titles like Fruits Basket & Loveless do well, the industry notices because this is NEW business-not the same old same old fanbase DC trying to entice Marvel fans into buying their titles & vice versa.
I buy all the yaoi titles released. Are they similar? Yeah, just like all those Harlequin titles my friend used to tell me about, but obviously like her, I don't mind the similarities.
Good yaoi/BL has a lot of humor or drool-worthy guys in them. I laughed harder at Poison Cherry Drive than I have at a lot of "humor" manga. I also enjoy fan-service titles such as Sorcerer Hunters because they also have a lot of humor. Yaoi often offers pretty boys with barely an annoying chick in sight. I can't make it past about 10 volumes in the average shojo title without wishing the heroine would die a violent death soon & then the guys will have to console one another. It's the soap opera thing--I hate most soap opera gals also. They are insipid & an insult to intelligent females. The only long titles I haven't started wishing the gals would die are From Far Away & Red River(but the Queen in that one has killed it for me. Dropped it at vol 10). Hana Kimi-there are enough guys the gal's just annoying (Tell him already!). And the Korean titles-there are some cool gals in them. I wanted Yui & Miaka dead by vol 5 of Fushigi Yugi.
And a lot of the shorter shojo stuff is just so pointless. Is there any diff reading Zodiac PI or Kizuna? Is there any point to Digi Charat?
So yaoi is far less grating on my nerves. I could care less whether it's porn or BL. Most of what they've brought over so far isn't really much worse than what we can see on prime time tv. All the yaoi haters really just come off as prudes-oo, yaoi bolsters the image of anime as porn. Tuff. Stop worrying. If the prudes land on yaoi, they'll land on yaoi. I survived the PMRC Heavy Metal senate hearings in the '80's. Anyone screaming about yaoi wouldn't have much room to scream because it is already labeled as adult content. There's so much the prudes could scream about in so many other titles, it really doesn't matter.

I don't care whether someone loves or hates yaoi or loves or hates shonen manga or loves or hates sci-fi, etc. It's just trolls who yell their hate in these random threads and start flame wars that I can't stand.
Seriously, it seems EVERY time I see a yaoi thread on an anime message board, it gets at least one person replying with "I HATE IT EWWW" and starting an off-topic war.
So here's a tip, yaoi haters: shut your mouth. You may care that you dislike yaoi, your friends may care that you dislike yaoi, but no one in this or any other yaoi thread does, so do the world a favor and quietly pass by.
(replace the word "yaoi" with any genre in the previous paragraph and you have a handy Internet Etiquette rule~)
It's okay to say you dislike something, but don't make posts to ONLY say things like that...

Is there any chance this thread will go back to the subject of the mascots? Because that was actually interesting.
I'm not a yaoi fan, mainly because I just find the idea of two guys boring, but yeesh, the article's not even really about yaoi. Can't we just live and let live a little? It is fairly unusual for a company to come up with mascots like this in the first place isn't it? Could we talk about that please?
Something that didn't occur to me about the designs for those mascots earlier was that they seem very young. Does anyone have a thought on that?
Is it just a generic use of cute young anime character? Are they symbols for fans or symbols of characters in the sexually lighter titles? Females or traps?
A sign that the company will soon branch out into lolicon material? (And that the devil will soon be buying a pair of ice skates. )
