Man, I wish I had read about this in time to go (my own fault for not checking the events forum); I would have loved to have gone.

Thanks so much for the interview with Reiichi Hiiro. It was a wonderful surprise! I love Double Call, and I'm so glad to hear she doesn't have plans to end it any time soon.

While I'm happy to see an interview with the Gashbell mangaka, I wish the interviewer had asked him some more hardhitting questions, like what was up with the abrupt cancellation of Gash on FujiTV, will it be back, and how much longer does he project the manga to last (I don't mind long series but I really hope to see the ending of Gash before I die, and I mean, there's only 101 demons. ;) )

You are not alone. I've just learned that many users who are very active on Talkback, Anime, and Manga fora don't visit Events forum. Next time (if there's one) I'll probably initiate the discussion on Manga forum.
I wish I could have asked better questions, but I'm afraid that I've never read or watched Gash before, and I suspect neither do most reporters. Corocoro (the magazine Gash serialized in) was designed for elementary schoolboys and could barely regarded as shounen. Right now I'm sorting up miscellaneous pictures that were not related to interviews. They'll be available either here or on my blog (off-ANN), depending on the type of the picture. |

I like how one of the Zatch Bell team is wearing a shirt with a marijuana leaf on it. I think that says it all about his inspiration for the series.

Great interviews, good job!! How many people were there this year? I heard this convention is always packed and more crowded than Comic Con here in the US. It is awesome that the taiwanese publishers have invited so many famous mangaka and other guests to one single con.

The final report: about 420K person-times for six days total. The exhibition hall has infrared sensors at all gates and can calculate entry person-times automatically. However, entering the hall was anonymous and required no registration so there was no way to tell how many different individuals had visited; I would make an estimate of 80-100K if you asked me.
There are more reports coming up by the end of week. |

Ok, got it . . reading the interview, it just felt like you did know enough about the series that I assumed you must've watched a few episodes. ;) I guess I'm not much of a fan either because I always thought Gash was Shonen Jump. I mean, a manga with boob groping, crotch nudity, English swear words, and constant violence and blood in an elementary school magazine? Only in Japan! |

Sorry, not a single episode. The local video rental doesn't have it, there's no mail-rental service (e.g. Netflix) here, and for a person who has no transportation tool other than his two legs and a bus pass it would be really silly to sign up and pay the membership fee for a Blockbuster storefront an hour away from my apartment. |

I'm perplexed a bit at the honorific 'sensei' being used as if a proper name in this piece. Let me cite that some creators including H. Miyazaki hate to be addressed 'sensei' because it sometimes sounds sarcastic to native speakers of Japanese.

Thanks for reminding me about Miyazaki-san. In order to promote his new book, Miyazaki-san, who hates not only being called "sensei" but also giving out signatures, signed two of his new book Shuppatsuten (出発点, "Starting Point") as a gift to a lucky customer who buys any of Miyazaki-related merchandise licensed by Taiwan Tohan Co. Ltd. Another signed book was given to Chiling Lin (林志玲), a popular Taiwanese model who advertised his book in her TV program. |

Wow, thanks for the interview with Kaoru Mori. I'm really looking forward to Emma coming out in English soon, and I hope Shirley won't be too long in coming.

Geez, I almost forgot that I've conducted a survey back then. In order to investigate the difference between Taiwanese and American fans (using Cowboy Bebop as an indicator), I designed a questionnaire and asked random fans at the Exhibition:
====
==== Due to time constraints (I've got interviews to run for), I had only 40 questionnaires returned. I'll post results in a separate post. Fellow ANN users: you are welcome to answer this questionnaire as well. Just imagine if you met me at Anime Expo, Otakon, or any other North American (or any other place in the world) anime convention. |
