Has anyone else come across this? My boyfriend and his brother, both long-time Gundam fans, came across a small display of model kits and statuettes near the board games, mostly from Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed.

I'm mostly incredulous to see such a thing in such a mainstream store, versus an anime store or a gaming store that might stock model kits along with Warhammer and whatnot. Is Gundam: The Origin doing so well that B&N would take a chance on the toys? I can't think of anything else Gundam-related that's made any sort of retail impression here in the States.

I cannot comment about gundam origin since I know nothing about it's reception in the USA but gundam kits have been officially distributed in america for 10 or 15 years.

for instance G Gundam kits were sold at Target, toys r us had exclusive gundam wing products. I have not seen any at barnes and nobles since I only go there twice a year now, maybe.

unless you actually saw a gundam origin or new kit, it's probably just being pushed because of the recently re-release of gundam seed HD popularity. Bandai still revises old gundam wing kits, I honestly dont know who is buying them though.

It was announced a bit ago that due to the success of a Barnes and Noble test market for Gunpla, that they would be expanding to a few hundred Barnes and Noble stores across the US.

I've seen them also in a few different stores. Hopefully it does well overall. Only bad thing is, is that they arent really being promoted as far as I can tell, so I doubt awareness that they are even sold there is very high.

Bluefin is distributing both the model kits, and Figuarts (and related lines). I believe they're in about 600 stores, from what they said at Sakura-Con.
