Your right in that we all need entertainment. It's just I like my shonen without boring characters, forced situations, odd storytelling and pointless cruelty that's supposed to make the story "gritty" (the sodomy with a firecracker bit was classy). To be fair it was an informative, well-written review that I'd probobly agree with for the most part if there weren't shonen title in english that are ten times more entertaining.

I've read the first volume and it was decent, but that was it. I have better things to spend my money on. I'll give the series a couple of volumes before I decide to drop it since Tenjou Tenge didn't get good until the flashbacks, but I'm not expecting it to improve much. Quite frankly, I can't see things improving much with such a silly premise.

I've been telling friends that Air Gear is basically Jet Set Radio: The Manga.

Yeah, I was thinking something along those lines as I was reading the review.

So is this one of the new reviewers that was hired? Pretty good, I must say.

i've read like 8 volumes of it so far. it may not be the deepest thing ever. but it's definitely one of the most fun mangas out there right now.

Yup same reason I read this manga. I actually prefer Air Gear over Tenjo Tenge. Tenjo Tenge can get very confusing at times especially when it tries to be "deep". The characters are more likeable in Air Gear then in TT sorry but Nagi in TT is an asshole. Possible love relationships work well in Air Gear while in TT they feel hacked on i.e. Nagi and Aya. And no long ass flashbacks woot!

Anyways it's a good fun manga I recommend it and it even gets better.

Yes I am, and thank you for thinking so.

If I'm (too) late in replying here, it's because I'm still new to this, and this particular course of action (discussing my reviews in the forum) hadn't occurred to me until lately. Similarly, I hope if I flagrantly violate any rules or stomp on peoples toes, that you will be merciful, as I am yet inexperienced in the ways of online communities. Now on to more important matters.

I agree that Air Gear suffered from all of these maladies (thus the C grade for story). What I liked was the way that the art and story integrated (refer back to the review for an explanation of that). I do tend to be a very visual person, so art often has a disproportionate impact on my enjoyment. As for that firecracker-up-the-rear... I can't in good conscience say it was in good taste, but I would argue that it serves the purpose (as did most of the cruelty) of setting up antagonists that you can enjoy seeing humiliated later on. It's simplistic, sure, but it's also effective. Other people will disagree, but that's what makes us individuals rather than some uniform conglomerate (just as there are people who are less visually oriented than me).
