I'm sure this anime deserved to win oscar but ... anyway, Miyazaki never needs those awards. we love him and we miss him so much. god bless you hayao.

1st: This wasn't really Oscar worthy. It was decent, but hardly one of the best movies he ever made.
2nd: How the can you miss him if he's been gone for less then how long it would take for him to make a new movie?
3rd: We're not even sure he is gone for good. It's his 7th retirement.

I agree wholehearted, and I'm sad that Takahata had to go up against this mediocre Miyazaki film, making Kaguya go seemingly unnoticed. I even preferred Hisaishi's music in Kaguya over the Wind Rises :\

While I agree that Kaguya-Hime likely deserves more attention than it's getting (same goes with Takahata as a director, as he really is one of the best the medium has ever seen) the fact is that The Wind Rises is being seen as much more than a mediocre film by a good deal of people. Personally, I think it really is a masterpiece in many ways, and it's probably my favorite movie I've seen this year.
If we want to talk about things that are over-hyped, we should focus more on the enjoyable but far from spectacular Frozen...
