Am I sad about this? Of course.
Do I think it's stupid? Of course.

But I also get that they probably had no choice in the matter. Don't mess with copyright...

Either way, this solidifies my Japanese purchase of the game. At least I have the luxury to do so for cheap. But I'll still be encouraging my Jojo-loving friends who can't speak Japanese to get it in English anyway, since it's not a horribly game-breaking change (the characters are the same--they just have different names).

So does anyone know if they've patched the Japanese game to balance the characters yet?

I wouldn't jump the gun on the Japanese version just yet.

Unless the printed names on the screen are so important, I'd wait to see how the western version will play out. Will it be a more complete version with the DLC? It may be worth it to wait and find out.

Um, Viz released Part 3 of the manga, not the first 16 volumes which would be the first two parts and 1/4 of Part 3.

Shocked
I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything, 'cause I might have done a spit-take. Hopefully this wasn't someone misspeaking or a translation error.

the names will be changed to avoid "offending any party,”

Unfortunate, but inevitable.

Well CC2 actually cares about the game unlike the naruto games.

There's even big changes down the line.

Why do I get the feeling we're going to be seeing a certain irate penguin showing up in this topic to complain about the name changes? Neutral

Am I the only one who hopes this news really does constitute an announcement for an official English version of the anime?

They're probably confused when they say we're getting it, 'cus there's no chance in hell of that happening. Though I imagine we'll just get romanizations such as "Banira Ice". They'd probably have to pull an Angel Cop on the subs for Stroheim, though.

...I don't get why they'd say that, the recent anime was not licensed/released in either Europe or North America. Did I miss something?

Those OVA's aren't exactly "recent" though. Maybe this means negotations are underway to bring the TV series stateside. We'll know sooner or later I guess.

What US version? The show is considered unlicensable.

Perhaps they meant the spelling used in the english language subtitles included on the BD releases.

This is exactly what I was trying to point out in earlier discussions surrounding this game. All the naysayers say that there is no problem because you can't trademark a name but the situation is much much more complicated than that. The sad reality is that some real life bands can and will take issue with their name being used for purposes that they don't feel comfortable with. These name changes should come as a surprise to no one.

The only thing that I am really scared of is how the English voices are going to sound, if there will be an English dialogue version at all. Jojo is a series I love dearly and to hear the voices sound off putting could put me off from playing the U.S. version.
