This is a bit disappointing because I really liked the original Trigun dub cast, even as someone who primarily watches with subtitles. Hopefully they tried to make it happen at least, and maybe it just didn't work out with those other actors. Or, like when ADV was casting their Slayers movies and trying to hire Lisa Ortiz, the actors were asking for too much money. That seems less likely nowadays though.

Oh well, it's not like I won't buy/watch the movie. I may have to switch to sub but there's no reason not to give the dub a chance.

I'm so glad Bosch is back. It's sad to see that it's not the entire cast but I'll take what I can get.

For the role of Wolfwood, I was expecting a Funimation staple actor. All the other roles, except for JYB, are. So I was expecting to see R Bruce Elliot or Mark Stoddard (or even, lamentably, Sabat) cast as Wolfwood.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the name "Brad Hawkins" there instead. The name sounded really familiar, but I couldn't place it. So I looked over his woefully short biography and didn't see anything recognizable...until I looked at the top and saw that he was Ryan Steele from VR Troopers. That's awesomeness right there. I'm not sure of his dub skills, I'll trust that they are high, nor do I remember his voice being a "wolfwood voice", but if for nothing but nostalgia, the casting choice is awesome.

I'm not so sure I want to see this though, as I saw Trigun (subbed) and didn't like it one bit. Dubs have saved otherwise horrible shows IME, but I haven't gone back to try it. If it appears in a theatre near here, I don't see any reason why I would not check it out; it can't be worse than that Gantz live action I saw Sad

I'd forgotten about that. And so Lisa Ortiz squandered a potentially lucrative opportunity, and brought the franchise down. Her list of works suffered for it, IMO. Juliet Cesario wouldn't have done that Wink . (No offense to Martinez, she did admirably, and I was surprised to see her cast over Wolcott)

They get Bosch back as Vash, so no complaints from me. Can't wait to see this.

Very interesting, but not wholly unexpected casting. Johnny Yong Bosch, while being an L.A.-based actor, has had a working relationship with FUNimation (a one-shot in the original Fullmetal Alchemist, Beck, Sengoku Basara) so I wasn't surprised that FUNi got him to reprise his role. Also, Lia Sargent hasn't appeared in anything for years, so I've wondered if she's completely left the business and am not surprised she wouldn't be returning. But I am surprised that Bosch was the only original VA FUNimation was able to/chose to bring back. That said, Luci Christian and Trina Nishimura are fantastic VAs and I'm looking forward to hearing their takes on the characters. (Hoping the dub will be screened in the D.C. area or at Otakon this summer, that is, so I can see it in a theater.)

I think it's becuase most of the Animaze / Zero Limit Productions VA are all retired , or it could be with the same senario with the casting issuses when Funi licensed the Tenchi Muyo Ryo Oki OVA. Though I could be wrong.

At least they found a way to get JYB to return as Vash , though I was susprised their able to do that ( even though funi did it once before for ep 18 of Bakurestu Tenshi aka Burst Angel ) Was preety sure they would use their own VA cause this is funi were talking here.

Also for some people here on the Forums, This series was not the first anime series JYB did. First TV anime series, yes. But the first anime was actually Akira during the Pioneer/Geneon era ( I sure miss those days too )

Well that was definitely was not gonna happen. I dont think anyone wanted Sabat's dark voice as Wolfwood.

I was expecting they would have used Ayres or probably Vale as Wolfwood, and Vic as Legato.

A Power Ranger & a VR Trooper in one dub. Amazing!

I was going to watch all of Trigun subbed for consistancy after i buy the Remix singles and the movie but i'll give the movie dub a chance since Brad Hawkins is involved (along with Johnny which was no surprise) and Monica Rial isn't (thank goodness). Hopefully the new VAs surprise me like they did with the Evangelion films.

Actually I would have loved to dub the Wolfwood movie, but Funimation dubbed it already without me. They called me and wanted me to fly myself out to Texas from Los Angeles and put myself up in a hotel while they paid me less than the original series paid. I would have lost money on the deal. Then when I asked for more money, they went ahead and replaced me. Pretty cheap, huh? I guess they don't care about the fans. Sorry, guys, I would have loved to play Wolfwood again, but remember, I'll always be the original! -Jeff

Following is a letter from my fellow cast member of the English dub of the original Trigun series, Jeff Nimoy. It sucks that Funimation did this to both me (Meryl, original series) and Jeff. He posted it on animenews.com… here ya go!

Yup, in the midst of negotiating we suddenly got radio silence – and found out (from someone else!) that they went ahead and recorded it without us! I thought we were reaching a final compromise – apparently Funi did not. Anyway, sorry guys, I just had to spew! xoxo Dorothy Fahn (Melendrez)

Why say that . It would have been interesting if Rial was casted. Of course not as Meryl but as that partner of hers.

Hawkins was also the voice of the original Gold Ranger on Power Rangers Zeo along side Bosch. While they never would have been on the set together they would have been at the same studio when recording the voices for the action scenes. I'm sure that has a lot to do with how he was able to go from minor roles to a major fan favorite like Wolfwood in the same film as Bosch.

Just doing a cursory search on some of the old VAs reveals that they're still working on Bleach (one of the few ongoing LA dubs) in various capacities. Jeff Nimoy for instance has a crew credit as a voice director on that show. Lack of work in anime has just made LA actors less visible than they once were.

I doubt FUNi even attempted to get ahold of anyone outside of JYB. Bosch was the show's lead, and he's one of only a few iconic VAs out there. To them, anyone else was replaceable with their own in-house talent.

Truly a "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Moment. I was really hoping that they would actually attempt to get the original VAs a la how they're doing the Eva Rebuild dubs. With that being said, probably still going to see it in theatres and buy the movie on DVD.

Great that they got JYB back for Vash. Nobody else can do him justice.

As for not using the other Animaze VAs, maybe FUNimation tried to get more of them but the actors were asking for too much money.

I already new this but I'll just reiterate how disappointing these changes are considering that didn't have to be the case.
