Hello everyone, I'm going to open a topic about anime you've seen that really deserves... let me repeat that "DESERVES", a not good or below average rating. I won't comment on DBZ, Beyblade, Pokemon, Crush Gear, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc. which I don't really think deserves to be bash, why? because those shows has a sole purpose. Go figure that out yourselves.

Anyway, I've seen lots and lots of shows that bored me to death and is meaningless, but there's one that stands out in all of it and that would be "ONE OAV", a 4 episodes OAV. Actually, when I watched this show, I was expecting something good since it was made by the core members of Key, the group behind some of Japan's greatest visual novel. I watched the first episode, and it didn't really get my attention nothing much happened and is quite really boring. I thought to myself, maybe the 2nd episode would be different, nope, still the same as the 1st eps. And the 3rd? nothing has changed, now comes the 4th... and then, it ended with nothing at all. No character development, no story, no nice scene and not even funny. I thought to myself, "I've completely wasted my time with this show". To tell the truth, I don't understand how in world did they come up with this oh so boring anime. It's like watching a dream with no direction, switching scenes for no apparent reason, and not explaining what was happening.

... Steel Angel Kurumi Zero. I recently watched this, I heard it was horrible and wanted to see if the rumors were true. Good thing it was only about 45 minutes long. It was just bad. 90% of the whole anime seems to take place in one room. It wouldn't be that bad if the anime actually had some meaning though. The first episode Kurumi is in love with some guy (who it NEVER shows) and she confesses to him. She comes home crying acting as if he rejected her. Apparently it's just that he has to leave town in a week. With the way she was crying you would have thought she was never going to see him again. Of course, the next day she's seen in a great mood talking to him on the computer (apparently they're able to see each other on the computer also). WTF? What was all that crying for? It's really hard to decribe how bad it was but the rest basically goes downhill too. I had to see it for myself to believe it. A lot of meaningless drama and unneeded crying. Steel Angel Kurumi the original was so great, why did they have to make these horrible sequels? Steel Angel Kurumi Zero wins the award for the worst anime I have ever seen. I have no idea where those three "Masterpiece" ratings in the encyclopedia came from.

I can also think of Mouse as being horrible. It does have two small somewhat redeeming qualities to it though. The OP and ED themes by UNDER17 were awesome, and Halko's appearence as a character in the last episode (the dialog exchange between Halko and the Sound Director was probably the funniest part in the series). Other then that it was complete crap and a lot of stupid meaningless drama.

I can think of a few others that I personally don't like, but there are a lot of people who like them so I don't think they deserve the "Not Good" title. Everyone I've heard from agrees that SAK0 and Mouse are bad though.

I'm not sure how many people will say that this is not anime but I vote for Lady Death. It was just horrible, at least to me. I like ADV but this just wasn't right. Maybe because I was not familar with the comic but it was just wrong. The voices didn't seem to work for the characters. There was also no Japanese language track which I remember being lead to believe that there was one.

Just plain old didn't like Lady Death.

I know people will disagree with me on this but whatever it's my opinion. I'm going to say .Hack. I've seen a couple of episodes of it on YTV and for a show that's supposed to be a role-playing game you'd think the people would, you know, fight things. All they do is talk talk talk. I honestly get drowsy when I watch it. It's BOOOOORING. I'm actually gonna start watching it and see if it is actually as good as i've heard because I really wanna love this show. But from what i've seen it's terrible.

Heh, yeah .Hack seemed more like a glorified IRC chennel than an MMORPG at several points. But it does have redeeing schedule, allthough ironically the game's story is way better.

As a die-hard .hack fan, especially .hack//SIGN, and I'm sure that's the one you are talking about, I'm glad I am the first one replying about this to counter your claims about the series. Yes it moves slowly, and being a series about an RPG video game, you'd think there should be more fighting, action, and actual scenes of what normally goes on inside a game like this. But one of the points of the show is that something outside the norm is going on, an abnormality which creates tension and mystery and allows for alot of great character development. Since the show takes place almost entirely within the confines of the game, it is implied that "The World" is actually quite huge. So it relies on that implied notion that alot of stuff is going on around the characters and outside their point of view. That's what makes it so wonderful because once you start relating with the characters you really get a feeling for how they are striving to make a difference or at least figure out what's going on. Plus the music and the scenery go real well together. It is one of the series that I have given the rank of Masterpiece.

In contrast to that, and I know this will upset the original poster, but the one series that comes to mind that deserves the title "Not Good" (in fact I think I gave it a worse rating) is...
Air.
A series that has such great character design, artwork, and music is such a letdown when the story is so disappointing. Everything I want to say about it that I didn't like is a spoiler, but basically the story never seems to have a focus. They go on a journey to find someone and that ended up kind of a fiasco. There are some historical background scenes that if you think about it aren't really linked to the current events. It goes on various tangents repeatedly. Characters just disappear and transform into other being for no apparent reason. Too much confusion overall for such a slow moving pace. I. Did. Not. Like. It. Period.

I must say that .Hack is my favorite franchise between the animes, mangas, and games. Sign is heavily diologue oriented, so those looking for action and destruction and mayhem probably won't find what they are looking for with it. Sign focuses more on character psychology and philosophical ideas. I actually like the side stories of the manga and teh games a bit more than Sign though.

Back on topic, the only anime I've thought deserves not good title so far was SD Gundam. Man, there's a lot o' red when you lookit that anime on this site. I understand that it is targeted at younger audiences, but so is Cardcaptor Sakura and I can enjoy that substantially (Second half much more than the first though). SD Gundam just doesn't have a witty plot, has weak characters, repetitive baddies doing the same thing every ep ala Pokemon's Team Rocket. My 2 cents.

I made a custom list in My Anime that I like to call The Crap Pile. Unfortunately, I've watched almost all of those in their entirety.

Same here. I saw so much stuff for the movie before it came out, posters, calendars, toys, shirts, that I thought it would atleast be decent.... I was wrong. I'm sure glad a friend let me borrow it before I added it to my collection.

There aren't many other anime I can think of that are in my "not good" pile... I'll probably think of something later.

I definitely second Steel Angel Kurumi: Zero. I like the SAK franchise, and the second season was tolerable enough, but those 3 OVA episodes constitute some of the worst time-wasting anime I've ever watched. The animation is pretty, but the characters lose all their edge and charm from the previous incarnations...and honestly, I don't know what the creators were thinking. I don't know what they were smoking either, but I'm sure I know some people who would like to get ahold of it.

Out of anime that I've actually watched all of, two stand out, even if my ratings are better than "Not Good":

Futakoi: I really have no one to blame but myself for this, because I should have know what I was getting into. I thought that Futakoi would be cute and sweet, and while it was, there were too many irritating chracters and situations to bear. Not to mention the standard, pointless harem plot that doesn't have anything close to a resolution in 13 episodes. Sister Princess was far less annoying as another entry in that same genre.

Madlax: Now here's an anime that goes out of its way to make you think it's good..."Look at me, I'm like Noir! I have girls with guns! I have slow, methodical pacing, and lots and lots of mystery! Buy me! You'll love me!" But, after 26 episodes of slow still pans, Elda Taluta-ing, Kajiura music, and the occasional gunfight (far fewer in number than Noir, btw), the viewer is left with a "Wtf did I just see?" feeling. Sure, some suspension of disbelief is necessary to enjoy action/assassin anime (and anime in general), but many of the key, concluding events in Madlax are so outlandish and ludicrous that you can't help but Rolling Eyes at the series in general.

In a few words, Dark Side Blues. I really don't understand what they were trying to pull when they made this movie. Nothing is explained, nothing is resolved, the ending is a cliffhanger, the subplot was boring and then took over the movie. It was still the subplot in the grand scheme of things, it's just that it was actually shown while the real plot...had no development at all, really.

I think it suffered from the "Mainstream" Syndrome. Instead of focusing what made Lady Death great (Undead babes with DD Bras and perfect bodies), they decided on the story they put out in order to attain the maximum number of consumers possible that had completely no idea of the Lady Death Comics.

The story tried hard to stay in the "roots" of the comics, but failed.

And the bankruptcy didn't help as well.

I saw the comic book at my local comic book shop, but I always thought the comic book came after the anime. Guess i was wrong. Doesn't change the fact that its "not good".

Great character design? Having your eyes slowly drooping off of your face and your nose and mouth violently shoved into your forehead is good? Pedo-bait girls having a chin the size and shape of texas is attractive? Regardless of plot, AIR has the worst character designs I've ever seen in my life; Picasso would be proud.
