Yes, that's right. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou has officially ended. Chapter 140, the final chapter, was published in the February 25 issue of Afternoon. The next issue of Afternoon will feature profiles of the characters of YKK, and the final tankoubon, volume 14, will be published on May 23.

Ashinano-sensei is working on a new series, to be begin later this year in Afternoon.

Even so, this is the end of an era for all us fans of the One True Manga. 12 years and 140 chapters of the greatest manga ever produced.

from the description, it sounds like a fine manga.

how is this a "one true manga"?

if you asked me, isn't "Astro Boy" because it's classic or "DragonBall" because of it's phenomenal success in establishing manga in culture make it a "true manga"?

please explain. and let us know if this book is being licensed, it looks great!

The series is unlikely to be licensed, because its audience (mature, sensible people who don't mind a slow-paced story) is very narrow. For more on the series, I refer you to this earlier post.

Furthermore, both dormcat and myself have posted extensively about YKK, and browsing our old posts will produce a "YKK hit" in at least every tenth post, I'd estimate.

There is no such thing as "the one true manga". Thankfully.

It sort of caught me offguard, even though you could tell by the recent chapters that it was winding down, I still thought it would go on for a couple more chapters. But I guess if I had paid more attention to the chapter count I would have known. Anyway, bye-bye Alpha, I'll see you in the reread and when I buy the tankoubon (eventually). And in my avvy, of course.

So, his new manga, will it be the same kind? Will it continue PositioN?* Can't wait to find out. I kind of hope he tries something new, like Mitsuru Adachi did with Niji-iro Togarashi. But if he doesn't that's okay, too. *goes to read Cross Game*

*Speaking of which is PositioN just the 7 chapters?

I won't bother arguing about the "One True Manga" statement (I know you well enough to see that it would be pointless) but it did catch me by suprise when YKK ended. I couldn't be called one of the hardcore fans like some people on the forum are, but neverless I loved the series. The finest slice-of-life manga ever created without a doubt, and it's right up there with Love and Rockets or Gasoline Alley if you were to include American comics. Looking forward to the author's next project.

I commend you on your grasp of the obvious. Next, you might want to work on your grasp of hyperbole.

1. There's no info on what the new project is. It's bound to be good, whatever it is.

2. No, it probably won't continue PositioN, though I'd love it if it did. All indications are that it will be a new work.

3. Yes, PositioN is just the seven chapters, since the series ran the no-longer-extant Afternoon quarterly special edition.

Ahhh... a fellow lover of Love and Rockets. Very Happy

Oh, come on, Steven. Is that the best you can do? Surely anyone with half a brain could come up with dozens of better putdowns than that. You disappoint me.

But all right, since you're not really trying, then I won't bother with the elegant stuff, either.

Hmm. Let's see... something suitably half-witted. Oh yes, I have it:

"Not everything is as premature as yourself."

There you go, Steven. Happy now?

And now you're just trying too hard. You know, reacting to an insult, even with such a long winded response such as yours, still shows that in some way you were miffed. Don't be. It's silly Smile A condescending attitude to a condescending attitude just makes you look like you're desperate.

At last, a worthy comeback -- but why on Earth didn't you go for the gusto with a Cyrano de Bergerac-style list of repartee?

You fail, however, for lack of attention to facts: I am always long-winded, so your observation lacks merit.

Awesome, for all the articulation you have, you still don't realise that the comment I made wasn't meant to be an insult to you, merely me saying "oh great, this comic that I don't like is coming to an end. great!". Just get over it.

Oh, please. I like both of you, but you're both being silly right now. Steven, you're too blunt and might have found a better way to word "I personally don't care for YKK." Abunai, there's no need to overreact; Steven didn't mean to be insulting. Set aside your differences for now and be rational.

Can't we all just get along? Please?

That would be a stinger if it were true, Steven, but it isn't. Your obsessive dislike of me, and your inability to pass up the chance to take a stab at me, is well known. Since I'm not one to back down, I usually oblige... but you're not on your usual form, today. Really, I recommend some sort of dietary improvement. There must be some medicine or vitamin supplement that helps promote a better grade of dysfunctional posting. Couldn't you get a prescription?

Yes, and I'm concerned. Are you feeling well, Steven?
