...The thought crossed my mind as I was listening to GO!GO!7188's cover version of the old Cutey Honey TV show opening theme...I can't think of any other anime tunes with cover versions. Has anyone come across anything else?

I've got a really wicked punk cover of Cruel Angels Thesis. Sadly, there was no name for the band when I downloaded it.

Use the search function for the band Animetal since they have been mentioned on this forum a few times. I love their cover of the First Gundam OP song as well as the Eva theme.

I have just listened to a cover of Globe's "Survival Dance" by Boa. Very hip hop oriented. Original might be better.....

Oh man...a thrash punk cover of "Cruel Angel Thesis". There's something I wish I'd come across. =) And Mie(sic) from the Pink Lady duo fronting a metal outfit doing anime covers? That's seriously into the "Who-wudda-thunk" department in my books. I'll keep an eye out for this kind of stuff the next time I wander into my local Japanese CD shop. Thanks folks for mentioning these little gems(?)...
