Seriously, Key... what possible reason was there for you to give it a C?
I mean, half the time the show doesn't really know what it's all about, and the main characters are so frustratingly stupid and/or annoyingly obvious, I just.... can't believe someone could call this "passable".
I could see how Regios could make the cut with it's patchwork novelty, but... Kampfer strikes a whole new low...
Seriously, Key.... what made you push your C key over your D(or F) key?

I've been curious about watching Kampfer since I didn't see it when it first aired. Given that I enjoy harems shows I will probably like this series. Like everything else I will rent this series before I decide to buy it or not.

If you read Theron's review in its entirety, I think it is obvious why it gets a C. I personally think that's a fair grade. This may come as a shock to you, but you are actually not The Objective Arbiter of All That is Good in Anime.

Whoa, where'd that come from...
I just don't like(hate it actually) the anime. And yes, I did read the review. I thought Key didn't lay enough harshness where it was due.
Least I know one anime not to bash in front of Blood-....

Don't bash any anime with boobs in front of Blood-.
Anyway, this is about what I expected. Hope it sells well for Sentai, but this ain't my thing.

Meh, I'd say its a fair score. It's not good in any regard but it was a fun little watch. I might pick this up since I haven't seen it in over a year.

Agreed.
Back when this was actually airing, I saw about 2 episodes with a few friends. We got some laughs out of it, and wanted to believe that it was a combination of Ranma & Mai-HiME. I could tolerate the Ranma elements if they were paired with a decent plot and action....if only
However, by episode 2 it was clear that the HiME elements weren't the focus of the show, and that the show was going no where. Additionally, the main character not taking advantage of the initiative in his fight for moral reasons was particularly lame, enough to kill the show in my eyes outright. "I hate that cliche!"
I'm glad to learn that I did not waste my time on confirming first-hand that my initial impressions were correct.
Perhaps a C is too generous, a C- would be more in line IMO. A D should be saved for the more heinous shows that still had potential to be better than they were, such as Jyu Oh Sei. (Again, IMO)

Actually, it's got nothing to do with bashing this show (or any other for that matter). My main contention was that Theron had provided sufficient reasoning to make his "C" grade (which is hardly a roaring endorsement) understandable, so asking for additional reasoning beyond what he had already provided seemed impertinent to me. And by "understandable" I don't mean if somebody agrees with Theron's grade or not, just that, based on his comments, you can see why he gave it a C.

Agreed. 'C' is about what I'd give it, too. It's a little bit of a shame that it's not getting a dub, as a good dub would probably make this show perfectly acceptable background noise.

I would have gone C- and might have been persuaded to D.
Given everything that I perceived of the story, plus the character designs, I thought I would really like this, and blind purchased.
After the viewing the last episode, I was very disappointed.
In my opinion this show should have been better than what I got on the discs, and I really can not point to any one 'deal breaker'.
Kampfer and Nyan Koi have caused me to really cut back on my Sentai blind buys.

A B- would be fairer. it's a rather interesting show.

Interesting story? yes. Execution wise? poor as all hell. If anything, C is certainly appropriate for this show, if not C-
I hear the light novel is quite something though.

I did contemplate lowering this one to a C-, but there were two main reasons I didn't:
1) I liked the President character too much. She was much smarter than your typical harem girl and exhibited a measured approach not commonly seen in series like this.
2) The running Bowel Familiar joke worked for me, especially that whole twisted business about the Bowel Kingdom story background.

I agree with Reason 1, because her intelligence(not about pursuing the lead), was both consistent, humorous, charming, and provided enjoyment.
Reason 2 was touch-and-go.
I particularly hate this series because of it's heroine being the villain, and how both collide into one of the most hateful characters I've ever seen in anime.
Hate earned for constantly stealing the attention when it was better served for Reason 1... or any other of the girls.
I especially hated the gender bender in this context as well, as the fanservice wasn't racy, or tasteful, and only provided more hate for the lead.
I mean.... have you ever seen a more incompetent male???
Heck, even Rin in Shuffle shuffled(pun intended) with his choices of heroines.
At the very least, this is what I'd have for overalls:
Overall: D+
Story: D-
Animation: B
Art: C+/B-(didn't really stand out, but it was shiny enough)
Music: C+
+ Has three sub-heroines that provide entertainment for...
- The bumbling primary hero and heroine that eventually turn off any hope for memorability, enjoyment, or quality.

@ Otaking09 - kind of bizarre that you hated this series because who we initially thought was going to be a heroine turned out to be the villain. I liked that because it's not done all that often (that I'm aware of). As for the male lead - eh, he seems just as clueless as any typical male harem lead. To tell you the truth they all kind of blend together for me. The only thing that makes this one stand out at all is the gender-bending thing.
For me the biggest failing of this series - and I generally found it reasonably entertaining - was the point that Key made: the first few eppies seemed to promise an action premise which was never really delivered on.
