...and why (of course!) I enjoy it, honestly. Take DMC, for example. They had some American rock and it fit well! Yeah, it was not an anime, but it still worked well for what it is. Now I'm not saying J-pop or J-rock is bad to any extent, but it would be nice for something a little diffrent. Maybe even some European music or something. Anime is becoming international, and it would be nice for a little bit of everything so everyone can enjoy something. After all, many Anime are not even restricted to Japan. So what do you think?

I think it's pretty cool. Franz Ferdinand's "Do You Want To" is the closing theme for Paradise Kiss. If more American/British groups contributed songs for anime alot more people would watch it. Can you imagine a Hayao Miyazaki film with U2 doing the soundtrack? (I can!)

U2 actually did write a song with Brian Eno for a very popular anime film. Click here for more info on that.
Japanese people listen to our music just like we listen to theirs. It's not like there is a rule that states that all Japanese shows must have Japanese music for the opening and closing credits. As long as it is a good song that fits the series, I'm for it. |

I'd say it depends on the anime and it depends on the song. Like cowboy bebop it would have to have jazz music in it. If it got stuck with heavy metal or rap I wouldn't be able to stand it because it wouldn't go with the theme of the show. If the music helps convey the theme of the anime then I don't care if it's american, japanese, european, or african.

I wouldn't mind any kind of non-Japanese music in an anime if it were purposely created for the title. But I do have a problem when shows edit the original music and stick in stuff just for the heck of it.
The best example I can think of is in some of the DBZ movies where FUNi inserted music by Disturbed and a few other hard rock bands. Man, did that sound out of place... I doubt any of the kids in that target audience even knew who they were, but I don't think they do that anymore. |

It doesn't say which anime it was for. It mentions Ghost in the Shell; but nothing in the ANN encyclopedia mentions "The Passengers". |

Which doesn't fit very well at all, I was dissapointed by that choice. It's a good song, but it doesn't fit Parakiss's style/image/etc. As long as it fits and I like the music, I don't mind if they use English music. The classy, old American jazz used in Mertropolis was a great choice. |

Its a good idea to have american music in anime, if its doen right. The music in the DBZ movies dont really add anything to the movies. Infact, it kinda hurts them. Maybee I just think Disturbed is a Really overrated band, but the point is the same.

Well I don't think they're overrated just for the record though I'm into a variety of different music if you downloaded any of my amvs you would know this...so you need not call me a disturb fannatic. But the biggest problem was the music never fitted in with DBZ. They tried playing the loud stuff for the fights but it didn't show off any emotions of what was going on.Just like in the show DBZ it was just mindless fighting except this time in the movie it has added with hard music that doesn't fit in well at all, mostly because the fighting doesn't follow the beet of the music. EDIT: If the Fighting movements did follow the beet then it would probably look alot better but seeing how it's american music and Japanese animeation it'd be hard to do this without editing/butchering the DBZ movie. It'd probably be impossible to find the music that can follow the movements exact. (Like if theres an explosions a loud sound of music should happen and stop right when the explosion ends which is what you see alot in AMVs but like I said they won't be able to do this without butchering the movies). |

I got a question about one of your vid's. I think you said a while ago that you post as Remember Love on AMV.org, but if I'm wrong, sorry. I downladed the Vid using Vampire Hunter/d with "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers. I was just curoius what the theam of the piece was. You had great editing, but I just didn't get the concept. Was it an art piece, trying to tell a story, or just a exparmentle thing. It was cool as hell, but I just didn't get it. Also, what video editing software did you use. I'm guessing Premire or maybe Studo 8. |

Yes that's me..same name as here and on robotech.com forums. The idea of the piece was mostly to show jealousy between the vampires. If you read the vampire hunter D novels the vampires come very attached to there prey and I wanted to make a video that showed this, so I would go more on the artsy story side. Also, I used windows video maker first but then I went out and got pinnacle and did extra editing with that. As you can tell the music and the video quality well frankly aren't the best but I make do with what I have. Also, if you're wonder about the names of the videos like the Vampirehunter D one was named tainted.ex and the others were named something .ex. I made those videos for friends on an online game so don't read into the names of the videos there really nothing in common. But hey thanks for likeing my video I don't get much feedback on them. |

I would love to see more american and other cultural music used in an anime. BUt no rap, please. A good example of this is, in fact, Cowboy Bebob. Unless the jazz was from japan, then i'm dead wrong about that.

I think it works well and I don't really care what nationality the music is so long as it sounds good. Personally though I prefer orchestrated or classical scores to band music as it just seems to do a better job cinematically of conveying emotion without overpowering a scene. That said though there's plenty of band music in anime I've enjoyed and plenty I've disliked, some american, some japanese and some otherwise. What it all comes down to is it has to fit the show.
