http://dvd.ign.com/articles/674/674513p1.html

If you read this article, you'll notice that it tells several lies. First of all, they said that EVA is being "editted and heavily rewritten" on Cartoon Network when nothing was rewritten and so far only 1 second has been editted. Not a major offense, but something showing quite a bit of ignorance.

However, the last 3rd of the article I found extremely biased, mean, and entirely inacurrate. In just one article, whoever was making this article wrote such falsehoods as English dubbers put less effort into producing shows than fansubbers, that Case Closed was butchered to make it into a kids show, that illegally downloading licensed shows is acceptable as a way of "fighting censorship", that the original Japanese versions of the shows are unavailable to the public legally, and in general the article tried to make FUNimation look like the worst company ever and make fansubbing look like a noble endeavor. They constantly lied and lied and lied and it makes me furious! Whoever was writting this article must have been either extremely biased or totally oblivious to everything that's happened in the anime world during the past 5 years. I say we at Anime News Network force IGN to correct this article to be factual.

Also, another mistake this article made was listing the Case Closed DVD as NC-17. Given how much this article ranted about Case Closed, the 2 mistakes entirely cancel each other out and just make the article even more insipid than it actually is.

Knowing IGN, they probably WERE 17. This and them just copying and pasting from Animeondvd.com.

Reminds me of many Penny Arcade strips railing on them.

IGN is famous for being one the worst sites for articles across the whole of the web so this comes as no surprise. Everything from their informative pieces to their reviews are complete crap.

I just sent them a very detailed email that tells them what they've done wrong. Of course, they'll just say "LOL THIS GUY THINKS HE'S SMART BUT WE'RE RIGHT WTF ANIME IS PRON111" and delete it because they can't take criticism. Typical of those douchebags.

EDIT: I just got a reply, and boy, that editor CANNOT take criticism at all. He called me a self-obsessed fanboy. Some one needs to shut down this horrible site, because every single article they write about anime is wrong. Not like anybody reads them, though, so it doesn't matter. Let those morons continue to lie about Cartoon Network and FUNimation and dubbing studios everywhere. Maybe the guys at Williams Street, Mike McFarland, and Steve Blum will come across this. Then those IGN guys will be in BIG trouble.

Wait, IGN also sucks at, er, does anime news and reviews. Reason 27 why I never look toward as a gaming, and now, anime anything.

I actually find their reviews helpful, I always look to them before buying a game. The way I see it is, they were a game-review site first and just added the stuff later (i.e. reviews movies, dvds).

You guys need to keep in mind that anything IGN writes is just their opinion. Why does it bother so much of you? It's completely irrelevant. Have any of you ever been mad at someone else on this board for "lying"? Such things happen, and as long as IGN keeps getting hits on their website, they'll be hard pressed to even care.

We care because IGN's lies make the the US anime industry look bad. Did you not see what they said about fansubs, Eva on AS, and FUNimation? It's terrible. They're not stating their opinions, they're making stuff up and playing them off as facts to make the industry look bad.

And yes, everyone gets mad on this board when someone else lies.

IGN should just stick to video games and MTV or whatever they talk about. They shouldn't bring something they know nothing about into the mix. Seeing Dragonball Z and Cowboy Bebop on CN does not make you an anime expert.

Don't get me wrong, I also think this is regrettable.

However, nothing is objective and that's not a main purpose when writing an article. All writers really care about is how they write stuff, as long as there are people who read all that, I doubt they would really care. And there's nothing we can do about it either.

If you all really feel the way you do, then I just sugest you stop going there. This linking and discussing of their article is just proof how IGN succeeded in what they were trying to do.

I wonder how FUNI would feel if someone wrote an small yet detailed anonymous letter...
But I do think this is very objectionable material they wrote, specially the promoting of fansubs what really gets me. Oh well, let them write what they want fans of anime know would know if they're lieing but what about the people coming into anime...I'd hate to see someone new start reading that crap and come on the forums and saying fansubs put more effort.

Starwind can you post what you said to them...

I find it interesting that the site lives off of advertisments from video game companies (and probably movie companies too). I wonder how come they don't promote pirating video games.

I thought the whole thing was funny, though. Especially the NC-17 thing. Why would they do that?

Sorry, I don't have a copy of the e-mail. It was pretty vulgar, anyway.

Because they're morons, plain and simple.

And you're surprised they reacted the way they did? There's a difference between sending a critisizing email and a downright vulgar one.
