I know that this may be a slightly odd request, but I've been going a little nutty these past few days, trying to find an anime soundtrack that would go well with a certain video game(Super Smash Bros. Melee) and I don't seem to be having any luck.

The best suited soundtrack so far has been Excel Saga OST1, but I would like to find something else as well.

Can anybody help me on this one?

The music in Melee isn't that bad to begin with, in my opinion. But if you'd rather listen to something else, it would probably be better to just make a compilation CD of BGM. I have no problem with the Melee soundtrack, so I don't even know where to begin Razz.

I kinda like the music in Melee, too, so I'm not sure what kind of recommendations you want. What I would suggest is browsing different soundtracks which feature different music genres and pick a style that suits you. For something rock and upbeat, try the FLCL or Stand Alone Complex soundtrack. For something more orchestral, sweeping and epic, try Turn A Gundam or a Joe Hisaishi soundtrack (Howl's Moving Castle and Mononoke Hime are personal favorites). Susumu Hirasawa has a really nice style that I imagine compliments gaming rather well; check out the Millenium Actress or Paranoia Agent soundtracks for his work.

Or, you can try listening to something COMPLETE OPPOSITE of the mood you're looking for and it just may be crazy enough to work. Wink The Haibane Renmei and Arete Hime OSTs are both soft, light instrumental soundtracks. I dunno, maybe give it a whirl? Keep in mind that all of these suggestions are based on my personal taste in music, as well, so it's very possible none of these will work for you.

Oh, FYI, I'm listening to the Millenium Actress OST right now, while my fiance is in the same room playing Grand Theft Auto. He says the music matches up to his game surprisingly well. Wink Maybe give that one a try first.

That reminds me of the time that the Wolf's Rain soundtrack started to synch up with NBA street V3(my brother's game), but that's a different story.

To be honest, it's not that I really dislike the music in melee, but it would suffice to say that I've got a good deal of time logged on the game and the music is starting to get a little old.

If only it were as easy as simply wanting a sweeping soundtrack(I have enough of those already), but the fact is that I would rather find something bouncy and quirky.

The main problem that I've encountered is that I'm unable to find a soundtrack with more than one or maybe two tracks that fit that description.

The soundtrack wouldn't exactly need to be a perfect match, but it would be nice to find one that has around half of the tracks fitting the description of what I'm looking for.

Now here's an afro.

In that case, why not try the Read or Die OVA OST? That's a lot of fun, although some of the music leans towards the sweeping/epic side.

One of my all-time favorite soundtracks is to Tenshi ni Narumon!, a weird little fantasy anime. (Sorry I couldn't find a website that has a track preview.) It's really bouncy and fun and strange (think along the lines of Azumanga Daioh). I wouldn't make a blind purchase of this, though; it's kind of an acquired taste. If you like the Azumanga OST, I'd definitely check it out.

Thank you for all of the suggestions.
After listening to samples of almost every soundtrack you brought up(I couldn't find Tenshi ni Narumon! and I already own FLCL), I've decided to go with R.O.D. on this one.

Also, to those who may be unaware, you can find track samples on numerous cds at www.samgoody.com .
