Ok, I have been reading so many threads latley about Naruto that seam to dig up alot of emotion in people. But, I have never read a actuall review or in that case, if the show is any good. So, i guess this comes to my question. Is the show any good, why are people so obsessed with it, am I stupid for not watching it on day one, and what time and day is it on. I feel I have missed the anime event of the century.
I tries serching passed threads for my answers, but came up with nothing real usefull. If I'm dumb and missed a good one, sory in advance |

I can't think of any.
Not that Naruto is the best show out there, but it earns it's popularity, and I can't think of any other show that deserves to be more popular. Most shows that are better have a more marginal target audience, and most with broader appeal are of lower quality. Naruto is juuust right. To answer the original question: Naruto is a fun little action series, with dashes of comedy and charm in there. If you enjoy light hearted action series then you'll probably like Naruto, if you don't, you probably won't. Don't feel like you've missed out on anything unless you actually enjoy the show. It aires on Cartoon Network in the US, check your local listings for time and station. |

i like the comparrison to Dragon Ball Z. It is the current "thing". Not so long ago it was Fullmetal Alchemist but Naruto still has some gas left in it and won't burn out for a while.

Here you go, in list form as well.
1. It has ninjas. 2. A wide range of characters with different personalities allowing everyone to find someone they can relate to. 3. Ocassional awesome action sequences where the budget goes through the roof. 4. Ocassional tactical fighting rather than DBZ power level fests. 5. The characters are dealing with the same exact issues that the show's main target audience deals with (loneliness, finding your place in the world). It's easy to relate to the characters. 6. Good music for the scenes with tension. 7. Funny. 8. Can be very dramatic at times if you allow yourself to be absorbed by it. 9. Kick ass fighting with the characters having interesting defining talents along with weaknesses as well. Naruto can overpower himself in chakra and can make many clones of himself but he lacks finesse, has a slight speed disadvantage, and is prone to making ocassional mistakes. Rock Lee has the best in technical fighting abilities and speed but lacks the ability to use ninjitsu techniques. Gaara has the ability to control sand with ultimate skill but is slow and is a little screwed up in the head. Shikamaru is the smart guy with slick-ass techniques and well though out attacks but would lose everytime in a pure power vs. power fiight. Neiji is skilled in hand to hand combat and can see almost everything 360 degrees around him while being able to strike pressure points sealing his opponents chakra but he's bad at long range fighting and can be overpowered. Kiba is similar to Naruto but has a bit less of chakra but also has a dog partner which leads to many interesting attacks. So on and so forth. It's nice in that you never really know who is stronger than who. 10. Can easily be considered cool by nature for the same reasons we all though Ninja Turtles, DBZ, and so on were cool for their time. There are many more reasons as well. Unfortunately the show does have a few negative points (like the filler) but when the show is in its prime, I guess the best way to decribe it would by how one school child would to another. It just kicks ass. It's also a lot of fun while we can secretly get emotional over it as well. |

I'd like to think that Fullmetal Alchemist has some more worth to it than Naruto or DBZ, if you don't mind. I never became as attached to the characters in Naruto or DBZ as I did characters like Ed and Al, Hughes, Mustang, and yes, even Armstrong. They just seemed more real to me. And while all three of these shows deal with kids (or kids who grow up into muscular adults, in the case of DBZ) who have powers, this is just part of the shonen genre they all belong to. However, I believe Fullmetal Alchemist, despite a somewhat plain art-style IMO, expands on that with a truely interesting plot, concept, and, most importantly, character development, especially between Ed and Al. I think Fazz89x sums up most of the reasons why Naruto is so popular. I'd like to add what I call "Halo syndrome": the concept isn't completely original, and most of the elements have been seen in other places, but all the elements are done so well all at once that you don't give a damn. Plus, yeah, they're ninjas.
While I'm only up to the Chunin preliminaries in the English manga right now and the Zabuza Arc in the English anime, a friend showed me a few clips of what seemed to be a rather climatic fight between spoiler[Naruto and Sasuke]. (Wonder how many people saw that spoiler coming. ) While the animation looked good most of the time, sometimes I saw the quality seriously degrade, with characters becoming more blob-like, though I really liked the use of motion and the feeling of speed. Just a minor nit-picking point. This effect of extreme motion with a decrease in animation consistency can be seen in Yu Yu Hakusho during the Dark Tournament finals, when spoiler[Hiei fights Bui with the En Satsu Kokyu Ryu Ha/Dragon of the Darkness Flame]. |

Ah, darn animation studios with their low budgets, i noticed that dark touranment thing too.. it was very strange because he didn't look like himself... |

I tried watching Naruto all the way up to ep 17-18 and just wanst 4 me. On other hand people tell me to watch past ep 20 for the story to get more exciting. Thats just silly I think to wait so long but I liked Hunter X Hunter far more. Even ep 1 to ep 62 were amazing....just amazing !

I just like the fighting and the comedy. I can't find too many anime that can make me laugh and Naruto does the trick. The sexy Jutsu was cool and when the little kid tried to do it and turned into a fat chick was hella funny. But mainly the fight scenes.

Maybe it is in terms of content, but, Nielsen ratings-wise, after the debut, it hasn't been quite the breakout hit that some people were predicting, or at least it isn't *yet*. Naruto hasn't shown up in any of the weekly top 30 lists among the juvenile demographic splits of the demographic splits posted on the Media Life Magazine website since about the end of September (though hardly anything on Cartoon Network seems to make the top 30s anymore, so it might still be doing relatively better than most CN shows). The ratings info at Media Life is very incomplete (and doesn't split further into gender), but, as far as I know, it's the best that is available for free. |

I love naruto, but it isnt my favorite anime. It's probably so popular because it doesnt end at 26 or 13 episodes, and more is coming. It's a long-running series, and isnt half bad either.

Yeah you shouldn't ahve to wait so long to get into a story. That's why I like cowboy bebop...I would of hated cowboy bepop if it had 62 episodes and just got into the story of spike in like ep 15 or something. But nope it gets into the good story by episode 5 and that's what I really like is small delays that have small character profiling and little to do with anything with the main story (some grant it are good with the stories of Jet, Faye, and the rest, are alright) to get to the good stories. Basically, I hate waiting long to get into a story...Even if the action or music or if it's ninjas in the show I just can't stand waiting too long. |

I absolutely LOVE Hunter X Hunter, and I watched the entire series including all the Greed Island OVA's in under one week. I'm just now concidering to buy the Manga volumes, although I'm sure it's rather new and might just have one volume out at the moment. But here's my rant on about why Naruto is so popular. You first have to look at the age group this series is catered to, and this being a ninja fighting series the age group is going to be kind of young. Now people will look for different things when they watch anime. Some look for romance, comedy, action or a combination of any of those. Now this show has a lot of action plus some comedy that anyone from 12-13 to older will definitely like. That's only if they're into this type of genre anime, the same way people liked DBZ might find similarities between these two titles. The great thing I've noticed is there hasn't been too many episodes where they just power up like they did in DBZ. And it takes a couple of episodes to get through any action fight scenes. But that is to be expected from a series that has 282 chapters in the manga and hasn't shown any of the fight scenes really necessary to end the series. So to ask the question, why is Naruto so popular... Well it really just comes down to personal prefrence. If you don't like fighting animes that are 100+ episodes, then you'll definitely not be interested in this show. But if you like great character developments, story lines (excluding the fillers, but they have been getting better) and awsome fight scenes with AMAZING music, Naruto will definitely work for you. But like I said, it's all personal prefrence and there is no way you can convince someone to like this series if they don't like this genre type. |

A lot of people find HXH dull for a while but enjoy the later segments much more. Every viewer has to find his own niche. It's true that the Naruto Chuunin Exam arc is better than the first arc, and tends to reach a wider audience. A lot of shows based on manga fall into a similar pattern (plenty of people FAR prefer Bleach once the Soul Society arc starts, or One Piece around Arlong Park than they do prior to those arcs). |
