I have to say, I've found the last couple of Shelf Lifes to be improvments over the last few. For one thing, the tone of the reviews or synopses in general strike me as being noticably more upbeat than some from past editions. I've found them to be much more interesting reads, and I'd just like to take a moment to publically commend Sakechan for that. I hope she keeps up the good work.

In the most recent edition in particular, I found the list of realizations for DNA^2 particularly humorous, and I think that lent a more relaxed mood to the rest of the article.

I would like to mention, though, that I'm still not sure childrens' and adults' anime (the extreme ends of the spectrum, ala Hello Kitty and Urotsukidouji) are being given their fair shake. I'm consistantly seeing those sorts of series showing up at the bottom of the page, and somehow that just doesn't seem right. Yes, most of the readers of this site already know proper table manners and most do not have children to teach it to; and yes, hentai is 90% kinky strange animal behavior. But I don't think that makes them not worth seeing. For a true anime enthusiast, even heavily focussed childrens' and adults' anime should have SOME value, if only to show them the extremes and variety present in the medium that they enjoy so much.

For the most part though, I really liked the article. I'm already looking forward to next week's. Smile

If you want good Hentai reviews, might I recommend Hentai Jump? It's funny, well-informed, and generally a good read. I'd simply link to it here, but then I fall into the grey area of "linking to pornographic material" and whatnot, so you're on your own to get there.

Although that wasn't my point, I'll look into that when I get an opportunity. Really, I'm smarter than my avatar makes me seem. Smile

The only reason why I bothered to mention that is because I've seen children's titles, hentai, the more mainstream shows and older titles show up in the Perishable Items category time and time again, with only a few exceptions (Colorful... uhhh... maybe some Dragonball?), since the column began. That just doesn't seem fair, and I think the column could be improved just a bit if the writer would just keep in mind that there are, in fact, a sizable number of people out there who do watch series like Hello Kitty and Four Play, and that they are just as entitled to that as we are to Spirited Away or what-have-we.

Now if nobody minds, I'm going to cut out of the conversation right here. I just wanted to express my satisfaction with the new column. I'd rather not turn this into an idealistic or linguistic tennis match, like a certain other thread...

The problem there is that SOMEBODY out there would like EVERYTHING. If Sakechan were out to please everybody (who just so happen to enjoy everything), EVERY SINGLE DVD would be at the "Must Buy" section, therefore deeming moot any semblance of objectivity typically connected with reviewing.

I would have to agree with that - everyone has their own tastes in anime and something I like may not be something you like. However, everyone seems to be able to agree on some animes that are "classics" or "must sees", ie. Princess Mononke, Sprited Away, ect. Are then there are some that everyone agrees are worth running way from as fast as posible when you see then (You know the ones). In between those two extremes it is a gray area where there is the animes that I may love but you will hate, and vice versa.

Oh, like Laughing Hyena before her, SakechanBD is one of those people I'm afraid I never guessed was female until it came up in a thread (in this case, by Case referring to her as a "she").Embarassed

Well, I suppose it's not like I can really tell one way or the other with a name like "Bamboo" (a pretty name, certainly, but not exactly a common one). I guess "chan" was an important clue, but there are male "chan"s...

EDIT: By the way, yes, I have visited the "Staff" page on several occasions, but I guess I didn't read too carefully or wasn't looking up info on SakechanBD specifically...

Very Happy I'm used to that by now, no worries. I figured if I hadn't mentioned college, I could've tried to come off as a 40 year old man or something. Maybe I should change personalities every week, and change my staff profile so no one would ever know what I was. Smile

Anyway, thanks for all your comments guys! They're very much appreciated, and any suggestions will be well mulled over.
