Please be more specific. Everyone is different, so what sounds good to you might not sound good to someone else and vice versa. Do you like j-pop, rock, jazz, orchestral, or something else? Give some examples from other anime.

I've heard of a few musically themed anime but the only one I can give my nod to would be Beck:Mongolian Chop Squad. It's a show about a band going from small time shows to the big time stages. The music from beginning to end are all memorable, Beat Crusader's Hit in the USA is one of the best openers that I've heard in a long time that actually gives you the feeling of hope of making it big that the kids in the band also have. The closers My World Down gives you the closure that doesn't make you fall asleep and isn't just j-pop fluff, and Full Moon on the Water is just a song that leaves you in tears knowing what it implies. Not to mention the music that Beck the band plays. Like a Fujin, Brainstorm, and Spice of Life are punk rock head bangers that make you cry for more while Face, Slip Out, and their cover of the Beatle's I've Got a Feeling lets their musical chops shine and really makes you believe this band is going somewhere. If you love good rock music in your anime, then Beck:Mongolian Chop Squad is something to look out for.

Well the thing is I wanted to hear what others thought so I could check it out an see if I am into that. Because my taste is weird I dunno really what I like untill I listen to it. So this thread is pretty much so I can figure out what others like that I could try.
But here are a few anime/music I like: -Ghost in the Shell SAC: Cyber Bird, I Can't Be Cool, Lithium Flower, Living Inside The Shell and Be Human -Saikano: Sayonara -Wolf's Rain: Heaven's Not Enough -Cromartie High School: Jun This is just a few I could think of but I don't really want peeps to recommend any really just based on what anime/music I said I just wanna hear what they like. |

Well...
Cowboy Bebop. There is some amazing jazz in this. I like my rock, my classical(and all other forms of orchestration for that matter), even my video game music...but jazz is just so "cool". Hellsing. I have a good half of this soundtrack on a playlist. It has some cool, different, rock beats. Some are kind of dark, fitting with Hellsing, but not "heavy". Like Bebop, I think this OST screams style. .hack Sign. Wow. The composer of this one also did Le Portrait de Petit Cossette, and it shows. Both boast very engrossing sounding orchestral/well done synthesized music. Many of these songs have EXTREMELY catchy and well done singing as well. From the .hack soundtrack, I can never get enough of the first disc. There is some truly beautiful singing in this OST. FLCL. Most of the soundtrack here comes from the band The Pillows. Very good j-rock band. I'd say that almost anytime I've read/heard someone talking about the show, they bring up the music. After watching this on Adultswim years back, I got this as my first anime soundtrack ever. Samurai Champloo. I'd say the ONLY bad thing about the music from this show, is it's very repetitive. They're light rap and hip-hop beats. The OP is pretty cool and the main ED is amazing. A good amount of the music, while repetitive as I said, still carries weight. I think it might fit into the category with Bebop and Hellsing, sometimes it's just too cool. outlawwolf has already stated one of my all time favorites, Beck, and he's done it plenty of justice =). These are most of my tops in the way of anime soundtracks. If I wanted to list just anime with good OP/ED's I could go on for much much longer...but a lot of those shows had decent background music for the most part and nothing else too special about them in my eyes. |

Same here. The Pillows is one of the best bands that I've heard in a while The best soundtrack to get would have to be FLCL Soundtrack 3. It basically has all of the songs that were in Soundtrack 1, but they're all the longer original Pillows version, and they include a few more songs that weren't even in the first soundtrack. Also they have lyrics now. |

Initial D. Seriously, I watched that because of the super eurobeat.

anime with good music hmmm thats an odd one cause to me i think most anime has really good music wether it be the catchy theme tune or the overly depressing instumental outro song. they are all brilliant in everyway.
my favourite however would probably be cowboy bebop, because first off im a huge fan of jazz and when u hear this jazz mixed with j pop music its great and cant be beaten...or so i thought. the theres samurai champloo which is an interesting one. its kinda rap and i personaly dont like rap but the intro song was soooo fricking catchy it had me hooked. shinichrio watanabe and yoko kano have to some of the greatest music composers ever. now those series are very mainstream and just fantastic and all but there is a song, my favourite song in the anime neon genesis evangelion. its shinji on the cello. now im a fan of the tv series but dont particualy like the music however this one song was so moving and sounds just sooo perfect for the anime it has to be one of the best. |

I'd suggest Noir, as well. The music is like a mix between opera/classical and techno. seriously amazing, and well done, too.

Well, when it comes to an anime with a good soundtrack Gunslinger Girl is the first one that comes to my mind. It's just filled with some truly great classical pieces that all fits with the theme of the show very well. The opening song is also very nice although I'm not too fond of the closer.

*gets excited*
Ah Ah Ah Don't foget Burst Angel! Bakuten's got the coolest music track ever, nya. Ok so FLCL prob gets that award but certainly its 2nd best lol. The western twist! Unfortunately its not the most amazing anime but the music is amazing. Sometimes you have to sift through the menus to here some of it the best though. Some may only be in the menu- I had to go to select subchapters section in the volume 6 to here a very cool 30 second gig, nya. lol Well its cool for music anyway. Update spegetti western style. |

Check out Panda-Z. Excellent rock music by JAM Project. And since it's a "silent" anime (no dialogue), the music is an integral part of each episode.

Read or Die has some excellent instrumental music. Actually, it's all instrumental, including the OP/ED. It's a bit hard to describe with the right words; military makes it sound unappealing. It's sort of jazzy; there are a few really calm pieces, but nothing extremely boring to my memory.
A lot of anime with Yoko Kanno is also great, and she does a lot of different genres too. Cowby Bebop has a jazz theme to reflect the nature of the series. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is very much techno oriented, and a lot of the songs are in different languages. I personally didn't like the soundtracks to this or Cowboy Bebop terribly much. Some songs were great and the music sounded much better played during the series rather than in a music player by itself, so the soundtracks as a whole could have been better. The Wolf's Rain soundtracks I would really recommend, it's mostly orchestral music but the lyrical songs (gee, that sounds awkward) are done nicely. Yuki Kajiura's music is popular with a lot of people, but it gives others a headache. A lot of European chant, and electric intruments, but the tunes are quite good. Generally has a sort of sinister undertone to it (that's not to say its depressing stuff or anything). I like her music a lot, but sometimes, there's only so much electric violin I can take. Music with words: Gundam SEED definitely. (Or anything by See-saw also works. )Nice tunes and good singing make a working combination. Nami Tamaki and T.M. Revolution have quite a few songs in the soundtrack too. I would give the SEED vocal songs a pretty high rating. The BG music could be better, but it isn't bad at all. Oh, I almost forgot about Studio Ghibli's movies. I highly recommend the soundracks (and the movies) if you enjoy orchestral music. Joe Hisaishi is probably my favorite anime composer so far. You can check out this for an index of music reviews by ANN, as well as AnimeOnDVD.com's music reviews. |
