I love book stores. Not so much for manga/anime which I've been drifting away from as of late, but books in general. There's so much to look at, so much I might want to buy. Seeing them not doing well is upsetting, but understandable.

Well it's not like I can find any of the manga or light novels i want to read. I'll just wait till next month where i can hit up a few comic shops and Kinakunia.

By this time next year, I suspect B&N will be dead, or at least an announcement will be made that they'll be dead soon. It's sad, but everything is online these days.

No sympathies Barnes & Noble. I never have had to contact the Better Business Bureau about Books-A-Million, unlike with you, so I think I shall be sticking with them for quite some time to come. It's quite a shame the jobs that will be lost, though.

Sad. I love to go to Barnes and Nobles. I don't like to buy things online if I can avoid it. There is just something about buying books in person that I really love...

Well, I can't say I am surprised about this news. Barns and Noble is competing against online businesses, but to be honest, I haven't bought any books at Barns and Nobles in years. Their prices at times are quite high and finding a location that is in reasonable distance anymore has been quite the challenge.
But I personally rather buy items online anyway, even though there is shipping fees and at times tax. But the prices of books is at times lower than brick and mortar shops and is much less time consuming. Chances are Barns and Nobles will meet the same fate as Borders, but books just don't sell as much as they once did. Probably in the next decade or so, the era of brick and mortar books store may be less common place, as digital print is becoming more prevalent. But this much is for certain, the era of large quantity of brick and mortar book stores is coming to eventual close and online shopping is way to buy books, among other items. |

Barnes & Noble is the only bookstore that has existed in my area since BORDERS/Waldenbooks closed...
I go to the store to hang out and look around and buy things I didn't know were being released. I would preview things I don't know about and see if I wanted to start collecting the series or not. I'd rather not buy everything online because of this. It takes much of the fun out of exploring the unknown... And if books become digital, I might end up quitting them altogether. I have a hard time reading anything on a digital screen... |

It would do better turning solely into an online retailer, reducing its overheads which means they can cut their prices to be more competitive. It's a shame but high street stores are dead.

I have their membership card and they've really cut back on coupons. Only got the generic Father's Day coupon for the last month and a half that anyone with an email account with them got too. :/ Sure the 10% off is nice but not when sales tax is more than 3/4ths that amount. Essentially I save about $0.30 per book. Wow, great savings. 3_3 I'd have to buy 37 manga books (10.99 each) to break even the cost of the membership per year. What a joke.
And they send an email like every 3 days which usually has Nook garbage in it or the newest book by Dean Koontz. ugg |

For me books are tactile. I want to pick them up and look at them before I buy. So this is sad. However this does breath new life in second hand book store which I have found most satisfying.
That said what the does this have to do with anime news??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? If I want to know about BnN's finances I can read the Wall Street Journal. Recently there have been several stories that I found had really nothing to do with anime news. Is this a new trend? If so please just stop. Or change your name to ANN and stuff. |

We sell books at MSRP. Bring that up with the publishers.
Online is a different story, where we sell at prices competitive with Amazon and you get free express shipping (saving at least $5 every order) with your membership. And I'm sorry if your local Barnes & Noble isn't as awesome as mine is, but we're kind of really awesome and make up for it and it will suck when we're gone. |
