What a shame, I wonder what happened to get such a big debt? I don't belive i've heard of an Atlus game that sold terribly?
Well I guess this means the wait for Persona 5, just got longer since Index wont be able to fund it with that debt.

They bullshitted on their earnings/taxes. This might cause problems in fines. Not to mention it looks like the big-wigs were sneaking money.

Seems like someone might have been cooking the books.
It amazes me that so many companies would rather go into troublesome debt rather than take efforts to stop the bleeding early.
I will definitely try to keep up with this news. I wonder what parts of the company were faltering. I always thought Atlus games were profitable.

And now those big-wigs are leaving the sinking ship, it seems.

This sounds like an auction off of assets prior to winding down of the company business. An orderly way of cleaning up the train wreck without locking the company's doors and sending everyone home, as happens all too often.
Likely Atlus will end up as a part of a larger business or, if they are lucky, a separate company with new and much more responsible ownership.

I wouldn't think it would have much to do with ATLUS. Index has multiple subsidiaries so its possible it could've been one of those that caused it.
I have no clue.

I guess I'm looking at this differently from everyone else: Index needs Atlus to announce Persona 5's details yesterday. Index needs the money so they need Atlus to produce a guaranteed money-maker to help them out.

If Atlus is just a branch of Index I can't see one game helping them out of that much debt. They would be better off selling Atlus and keeping the other parts alive.

Those years of slaving away for LJN have caught up with them!

Not if Nintendo has anything to say about it

So far none of the projects are being affected. However, it's unknown what titles still in production are being affected. Best not to make crazy speculations.
But if I must say, social gaming seems like a very bad road to go down. Especially with the recent fall of NadeColle (Nadeshiko Collection) after only half a year or less.

The article makes it sound like they are going to be allowed to continue operating only under a sort of trusteeship with the courts so that the case against them can proceed unimpeded as well. At least they don't have to totally shut down and do the whole asset freezing thing ala Enron and the like.
Corporations are corrupt and often lie about their assets, who knew?
