Olivier Armstrong is one of my favorite characters. Fierce, powerful, and authoritative. Her 80s Kim Bassinger look doesn't hurt. Good voices in both languages, too.
It's good thing Troy Baker took over the role of Greed. Chris Patton wasn't cutting it in either this series or the previous one. Baker brings a lot more of Greed's attitude out.

The revelation of who Pride is, is one of the best twists in all of anime. Not only does it actually make sense (as opposed to most twist which tend to be their simply for shock value) when you reread the story, but it changes how you view the characters seemingly innocent actions.
As for the rest of the set, Olivier Mira Armstrong is one of the best female characters I have ever seen, not only being a competent leader, but a badass as well. I have liked Stephanie Young ever since I saw her in Ouran High School Host Club (where she went under the pseudonym Callie Mchalen)

I prefer Chris Patton's Greed over Troy Baker's Greed 2 any day..Chris Patton had so much attitude that it was bursting out of Greed's seams..Chris is absolutely brilliant as Greed.I'm genuinely disappointed that Chris didn't return as Greed 2..it simply isn't the same without him in the role..but Troy Baker will have to do.Kimblee in Brotherhood is more swift and intelligent then the Kimblee from the original series..making him the perfect foe for the Elric brothers..Eric Johnson is doing a wonderful job.Todd Haberkorn truly stole the show in episode 28 and Ed Blaylock is truly a master at his craft as Wrath..I wish Funimation used him more often.I'm most impressed with Kent Williams tho..he continues to give the performance of a lifetime as Father.Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is a emotionally riveting masterpiece..I can't wait to see the finale of the English Dub..its going to be a hell of an event.

Why? Without elaboration, this is just a trolling post. And don't use all caps.

You know, I'm think I've finally mellowed toward Brotherhood. I kept watching it on adult swim since I love FMA so much, but found myself pretty bored during the first chunk, and the differences between the two shows after the first 13 or so episodes really bugged me. But now, I'm actually looking forward to it. Although I think the reason why is that I've realized that my attitude towards Brotherhood was not really about the show itself, but rather how all of a sudden people seemed to be treating the first series like it was crap, when it was anything but.

I agree, it's not that FMA:B is bad at all, it just doesn't feel like it can stand up without the other series, but now people are seeing that FMA:B is good, the whole "The old one sucks!" is stupid because it did not "suck" it did what it could with the material it had and worked it's own concepts and ideas in and made it's own story, and it made a good story and everyone forgets that just because it's not Arakawa's writing, and she liked the ending too.

You are a never-ending source of hilarity.
Chris Patton was flat and uninspired as Greed. He brought no life at all to the character and ruined him in the first series, making him sound more slimy rather than an off-beat rebel. The Japanese VAs were brilliant in the role in the two shows, so it's great that Baker's on board to actually bring the role to life for once. Greed is my favorite character and Patton violated the character with his mediocrity.
Johnson/Vale is awkward as Kimbley. It may have fit his more simplistic bomber personality in the first series, but it fails to capture the subtleties of his Brotherhood personality. It's embarrassing to listen to.
Ed Blaylock sounds weary and anemic as Bradley. He doesn't give him a sense of authority or rage the way Hidekatsu Shibata does. There's no gravitas.
And Kent Williams is presentable at best.
The really powerful performances are Travis Willingham's Roy Mustang, Colleen Clinkenbeard's Riza Hawkeye, Chris Sabat's Alex Louis Armstrong, and Stephanie Young's Olivier Mira Armstrong. |
Thats your opinion not a fact.Chris Patton,Eric Johnson, Ed Blaylock and Kent Williams are all fantastic voice actors that are doing an phenomenal job in Brotherhood..I love Hidekatsu Shibata's Wrath but Ed Blaylock's Wrath is just as good..he truly sounds menacing and dominant in the role..how does Eric sound awkward and embarrassing?Thats ridiculous.Eric sounds devilishly villainous exactly what the role calls for while Chris Patton's Greed being flat and uninspired is a very untrue statement..Chris brought a wonderful charisma to the role that both Japanese VA's and Baker lack.Kent Williams as Father is far more then presentable..Kent is easily on par with Iemasa Kayumi if not better in the role.I love the Japanese Dub of Brotherhood..its by far the best I've heard but at the same time I can appreciate the English dub without insulting the voice actor's performances at every turn..its quite clear that a vast amount of love was put into each and every performance in the English Dub of Brotherhood..obviously we aren't going to agree here so to each their own.

yeah. whats up with that? if an anime decides to create its own story, it automatically sucks. they don't give the 1st anime any credit about their ideas about the humonculi and its stories at all. i still think that brotherhood is better, but the 1st series, isn't too far behind

wow Funimation can you read my mind. Back when they were streaming Brotherhood and saw Olivier. Stephenie Young was the only person I thought would work for this role.

In my opinion, just saying one of the two series sucks in comparison is really immature. Both are two great anime series and from the same franchise. It may be common to compare other series like Bleach with Naruto since they are not the same, but the FMA discussion just makes anime fans look childish.

Junichi Suwabe and Yuuichi Nakamura give Greed a great deep voice and make him into this intense, grandiose, braggart. A punk with ambition. Patton pays him off as slimy and underhanded, like some creep. I don't like it. There's no gravitas behind him. He sounds run-of-the-mill. Baker likewise makes him sound super snarky and what's more, dangerous. Patton sounds too lightweight to have any power. And a charismatic character like Greed needs power. Apparently, Funimation agrees.
Charisma? No, Suwabe, Nakamura, and Baker have charisma. They have oomph. Every time Greed speaks with their voices, I have my eyes squarely on him and never want to look away. Patton barely puts any effort into the role, making him kind of generic. He made him sound like he was some minor side character the viewer shouldn't care about.
Greed is my favorite FMA character. I couldn't imagine I would ever have liked the character as much as I do if I had watched the dubbed version first. Patton dropped the ball, Baker picks it back up.

It simply comes down to personal preference..you don't like Patton's take on Greed while I absolutely love it..Patton is easily my favorite voice actor for Greed..his final performance as Greed was remarkable..for the record the only reason Funimation replaced Baker for Patton is because Chris has retired from anime voice acting..he is now doing audio books and commercials..Funimation had no choice put to replace Chris..that is why Troy Baker is currently playing Greed 2.
