I know that the Anime Channel sometimes has subs on, but what about other channels?
Are there any other channels, like CN/[AS], or anybody else who play subs occasionally?

Not CN, AS (though that might change soon), WB, Fox(4kids tv), Toondisney or G4.

Flipping through one night they had the subtitled version of Tokyo Godfathers on Encore Wam. Not sure if they've aired anything else subtitled though.

I remember when Metropolis aired on Adult Swim the first two minutes or so was subtitled. It looked really stupid because the subtitles didn't match what the person was saying, I wonder how that happened.

Easy, the subtitles match the Japanese script, not the English. Wink

And anyway, AS has said they will showing a subtitled anime in the future.

Didn't Tokyo Godfathers not have a dub?

He was asking if there's an English dub (there isn't). Technically, Japanese is a dub, but when anime fans say "dub", they mean "English dub".

Which is exactly what I interpreted it as and exactly what I answered. Why do you feel the need to take a crap on every thread you come across?

No shit Sherlock. I prefer to make always make the distinction when refering to dubs for the very reason you mentioned -- the Japanese version and English versions are both dubbed.

I do the same except for live action shows/movies.

Anyway, I doubt that a subbed anime on a popular network like CN would work. It would most likely fail in the ratings.

However you can't deny that fandom, or even the interest in Anime in general, has grown since the last time this sort of thing had been assessed. Anime itself, in regards to rating, isn't spectacular on AS, however the standard at which they are held to is different. It's worth a try at the very least though, right?

Starwind: unless you've got something witty or relevant to post and aren't just scavenging for technicalities to correct, please, don't post Smile

There is no English dub. Tokyo Godfathers was a sub-only release.

Well duh! I was referring as to how did the subtitles appear on the screen in the first place. Did they forget to turn them off?

Encore Action showed Shadow Skills with subtitles a week after they had shown the same show dubbed.

I saw Ghost in the Shell on encore. It was just in japanese so I guess that the movie channels can air subtitles. And until Adult Swim announces or airs that show that has been rumored to be subtitles, then I wouldn't hold my breath for a basic or a cable channel airing a pure subtitled show.
