Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt
Oh Gainax.... This first episode was worth watching entirely for the spoiler[traditionally animated magical girl transformation stripper dance] So this is what it's like when you combine insanity with insanity with an insane studio. (Dead Leaves writer+TTGL staff+Gainax) You can tell that the TTGL staff was on this. The action was the majority of each segment and it was spectacular. At first it's doing the western animation thing, but then the camera is swinging at a different angle! Then it goes full 3-D! Then it shifts into regular animation! Then they defeat a monster and it explodes like a something out of Power Rangers (no I'm not kidding. The setting literally switches to a real-world screen and the monster literally explodes into pieces). Gainax has covered the "western cartoon" feel of the show down to it's core. You've got the opening that's only like a minute long that only sings the name of the characters over and over again (it's awesome). You've got the title screen that shows the name of the segment with a funny artistic rendering in the background. You've got the staff credits after said title screen. You've got visual sound effects in the middle of the show like a comic book. You've got the "BEEP" censor for curses (for some reason the b-word is totally okay to say in English though ). You've got the ton of cops who come racing down the street in hi-larious fashion. You've got a blaxploitation character who's always screaming at the main characters. You've got the small animal who gets abused. I can go on. In fact the only Japanese thing about this show was the ED song....which was in English. I liked it a lot. I think it's one of those shows that really could be for everybody in the target age if they just open their mind and actually just look at it for what it is. Oh but I should say, lots of cursing (even in clear English) and lots of sex jokes and it's kinda messed up. But hell, they were good sex jokes and it's messed up in that Gainax way. |

I'd say right now it's a love it or hate it show... I personally am on the former. the spoiler[pole dance] was hilarious. I also like how it kept switching styles randomly. I can already see this being the most original show of the fall. The only thing I don't like so far is the opening was kind of lame.

I actually thought the most most amusing parts (and I forgot to mention these in the Preview I did) were spoiler[the scenes where Gainax exploded some model rather than actually animating the moment of destruction of each evil spirit]. Certainly an odd gimmick, but one that may quickly wear out its welcome if overused.

Yep. First time poster insulting people who like a show they don't like. How predictable. I figured I had a least a few more hours before they showed up.
However, I do think this should be on adult swim. I'll agree with you there. |

I'm not insulting people I'm just annoyed by the Gainax fan base claiming it's show of the season after one EP. |

This may be the first CR simulcast I'm anxious to watch prior to its free availability.
Not only does it use an animation style typically associated with child-safe content to (quite literally) depict filth, but it's also quite clearly divisive. One can infer from current reactions that I may fall within the group who approve of it: incoming claims that the work displays little besides unrelenting outrageousness do nothing to offset my anticipation. |

I enjoyed the first episode a lot. I mean the show was just getting hyped up by so many people and I kind of had low hopes on it being good. I laughed, I haven't gotten a good laugh out of a show since the winter season so this was a nice change in pace.
Even though most of the jokes had to do with sex and things like that I still got a laugh or two, even if I hate those types of jokes. (there over used I say) I hope the series can keep up with the comedy value the first ep showed. |

You just said Gainax ****. And no one even said best show of the season. It's the third show that premiered. There's like 20 others that still have to come out. I don't think anybody would make a prediction that high even if it is Gainax. |

Well, I was always talking bad about this, because of the occidental art style, but I must say I really like it. As the OP said, it's crazy + crazy + crazy, and you'll like it or not. I like it
Somehow made me remember of aachi wa ssipak, anyone else felt this? |

The spoiler[pole dancing] scene v1cious mentioned has got my attention. I think I might have to check the first episode out. I'm not really a big fan of sex jokes but, meh, that won't stop me from giving this show a try.

This show, to say the least, is unique.
I called it the first time: this was more or less a crude parody of American cartoons. There was a heavy feel of western animation throughout the first episode, particularly shows that air on Cartoon Network or even Spongebob. It crosses the border of pastiche to parody when it over-exaggerates the gross-out humor of such shows. If I had the time, or actually cared enough to do the research, I could probably attempt comparing this with an average CN cartoon and detail the similarities. Of course, the real question is if this is what people want to watch. The joke has a good chance of flying over peoples' heads, unable to get the reference. As someone on another board pointed out, "Are there web pages where Japanese watch fan subs of American cartoons and think, 'This Hanna Barbera shit is real leet!'" A good question. Several jokes, however, seem to come off as simple, yet raw, so it's easy to pick up. Whether this works for the audience, though, is subjective. So it's...pretty much like every other Gainax production. Long to short: YMMV |

20:30: Demon train flies past the train station in a blur. It's RRRRRRRRRRRR sound effects don't catch up to it until a second later. The people at the station stand around innocently a full 4 seconds after the train passes until being sent flying.
That's how I know this is awesome anime. |

Yeah, I gotta admit that was great. Hell, there were many points throughout that were noteworthy. Last edited by prime_pm on Fri Oct 01, 2010 9:04 pm; edited 1 time in total |

One of my favorite moments was the reaction of the sales lady when the police cars wiped out her customer. That's when you know you have a great show.
And the previous offensive post was removed. You picked the wrong forums to come into and post insulting crap like that, LOYAL/a/NON. If you want to disagree with other opinions of the show, that's fine, but neither the swearing nor the name-calling will be tolerated. |

I actually found the first episode to be entertaining. I loved the car chase, which spoiler[turned into the truck chase, which then turned into the train chase.] I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Edit: Also was that an F-ZERO reference in the second half spoiler[spinning car attack], I loved doing that in the game, until I accidentally fell of the track. Also saw what reminded me of Conkers Bad Fur Day. Last edited by silencer226 on Fri Oct 01, 2010 10:03 pm; edited 2 times in total |
