Looks like Tokyopop missed the boat, by not licenseing School Rumble here in the US. They could have licensed it here, Because they had the rights in Germany, but Del Rey was much quicker. I wonder what happen with Tokyo Pop? Anyway I'm glad Del Rey Licensed it, and I think they will do a good job.

Cool. I'm happy to know that the School Rumble manga has been licensed. I hope someone gets the anime pretty soon as well .

That's an assumption.
Just because Tokyopop licensed it in Germany, doesn't mean the license was available to them in North America.
School Rumble is a Kodansha title, by the time Tokyopop licensed it in Germany, Kodansha and Random House already closely linked. So Kodansha may have said "You can have it in Germany, but we're saving it for Del Rey in North America."

Glad to see School Rumble licensed. I didn't know that Tokyopop released it in Germany, but School Rumble just seems like a Del Rey title.

Yessss! Best news I heard all day ! Del Rey's other manga were all pretty well done and will definitely do an awsome job with School Rumble. This was rather surprising news though. For some reason I visoned ADV manga getting SR.

Can't say I wasn't surprised... They do have the close relationship with Kodansha... Makes me a bit sad that this relationship started a bit too late for series that Tokyopop has done poor work with (namely Initial D)...
I've read their version of Genshiken, and they seem to have a decent grasp regarding their product but I hear rumblings that there work on Negima is far from stellar and some of the translated/edited dialogue is out-of-character... I hope that at least Del Ray does the School Rumble justice and not wait for the anime to be released in North America before they start releasing the manga...

You mean a good job on Azumanga the manga or anime? They made quite a few mistakes with the manga, even though they put good translation notes at the end. But yeah, I've got my bets on them taking the SR anime.

Ironically, one of the first questions at the Del Rey panel was from an insufferable fanboy who asked (in more words or less) "Why does the dialogue in Negima suck so much?" He went so far as to pull out his copy of Vol. 6 and pointed to the offending page, as if somehow the panelists were going to read that from 20 feet away.
DR's stance on dialogue is that they try to capture the spirit of what the character is saying, and naturally there will be some turns of phrase in Japanese that don't equate well to anything in English. Also, everyone has their own idea of what sounds like good dialogue in English, plus their own idea of what a character would and wouldn't say in a series, so it basically becomes a matter of personal interpretation rather than mechanics. In any case, Del Rey's staff prefers to reflect the character's emotion (although clearly it's a hit-and-miss job) rather than churn out a dry word-by-word translation.

True the anime is very popular but the manga isn't doing as good. At least i can look foward to collect more DelRay Manga. I was getting tired of collecting Negima and XXXholic . Have Delray out a release date on School Rumble yet?

AHHHAHAHAHAH, man i would have died to see that. I know that they got the southern master and thousand master wrong by one character, but for a fan boy to bring his manga and blatter out his own personal opinion that no one would have cared anyway.
In my opinion, keep your own opinions to yourself unless it's dire that it needs to answered. And the question the fanboy said is a "room silencer". Being rude at a something like that makes me mad.
