It has finally been posted on the official Cartoon Network website that the Naruto dub will be released on September 10th on Toonami. The time of it's airing hasn't been verified yet, but one can check every now and then at the URL.

http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/naruto/index.html

this is where the information (or lack of) on the anime is to be posted. It currently holds only a brief (extremely so) summary on the show and the date of the premiere.

Although I'm somewhat fearing the day of the release, I still encourage Naruto fans to watch, even though it'll probably be some sort of a fiasco... Heheh, after all, we've gotta see how they pronounce the names of our beloved (and some not quite) characters, as the dubbers are supposedly going to keep the original Japanese names. Anime News Network already gave us the heads up Wink

Quote:
Naruto will debut on Cartoon Network on... Saturday, Sept. 10, at 9:00pm, as part of the Toonami block. Episode 1 will run at 9:00pm, and Episode 2 will run at 9:30pm. Yeah, two in a row. Then, Cartoon Network will repeat Episode 1 at 10:00pm and Episode 2 at 10:30pm.

The following Saturday, Sept. 17, Naruto will settle into its regular weekly broadcast schedule: 9:00pm.

In terms of the dub, i'd say wait and see before you judge, I'm optimistic about it.

I almost wonder how it will turn out when they're rushed like this. They have just about one month left.

I assume Studiopolis already finished dubbing the first couple episodes a few months ago. Viz wouldn't dare to have these guys to do a rush dub job (unlike what Bandai did to the Ocean Group on Gundam SEED).

Hey, if the Japanese can put out 52 episodes of anime a year, I'd expect nothing less from the US dub cast. I just hope they have the first episode at Otakon like they did with FMA.

I do like that they intend to use the Japanese names. Even Sasuuukee will be better than something like "Frank" or whatever 4Kids would call him. It'd be doubly cool if someone would sit down with the voice actors and explain that his name is pronounced "Saskae", just once, but that's a bit much to hope for.

What gives me hope with "Naruto" is that the ADR director is Marc Handler, who's did the ADR direction for "FLCL". Of course, he also did the ADR directioni for "Rave Master", though I'm hoping Steve Blum adapts better scripts than "Rave Master" got (though interviews seem to indicate they're going for accuracy with "Naruto").

In any case, the dub should be at least passable. Studiopolis is obviously taking a lot of care with "Naruto" knowing its enormous fanbase. Even if they mispronounce the names, it's good to know 4Kids didn't get their hands on this show so they could change the music, use VAs that don't match the characters with terrible ADR direction, change plot points and dialogue for no reason, merge episodes to avoid violence, etc. (name changes are far from the worst 4Kids can do).
