Yay, I signed a petition that actually worked!! Though it was kinda obvious that the OTRFK novel would be licensed if they bothered doing the petition

Don't jump to conclusions. Go here and scroll to the bottom of the DMP report. They're planning yuri manga. |

None of it is actually Yaoi though... If it's Shounen Ai that makes you happy, this is should make you happy. If it's hardcore man on man Yoi you want... well, there are other titles. I wish people & companies would stop referring to Shounen Ai are Yaoi. Some kid is going to come home and say "mom, buy me some Yaoi" and her mother is going to end up with some real Yaoi, not the shounen-ai that she would have possibly been okay with... -t |

I'm really happy about the OTRFK novels.
I agree with tempest about how people and companies should learn to label shounen-ai and yaoi correctly. They aren't the same thing. Usagi, the OTRFK novels are different from the manga that has already been released. The manga was based on one (or more?) of the novels, but the novels actually go deeper into the story. |

And it bugs me that people still say "shounen-ai" when nowadays that is used to refer to people with a shotaro complex. BL (Boys' Love) is now the proper term in Japan and if I am not mistaken, it can be used to refer to both light-romance and smut. |

The companies themselves know the difference, Isaac at Digital Manga knows which titles are Shounen Ai and which are Yaoi. The thing is, Yaoi sells, it's a marketable brand. Although I wish they wouldn't present it as such, it is the better decision in terms of sales. And while there is the possibility of the misunderstanding I mentionned above, one has to keep in mind that the tiltes do have age ratings, and some are shrink-wrapped. -t |

I was aware of BL, but not aware of the evolved meaning of Shounen-ai. I'll look into it, and if true, update the encyclopedia's lexicon as well as my own future use in the news. -t |

In fact, as far as I know, "shounen ai" has never been used in Japan for "light malexmale romance." It's been used for early manga like Kaze to ki no uta or Thoma no shinzou where the characters were actually boys, and which were made in a time when mangaka were still wary about drawing explicit sex (and were more concerned with emotions and psychology, anyway). And yes, today the term refers to shota-kon.
Not to mention that "yaoi" is a term pretty much reserved for amateur malexmale doujinshi/other fanwork because it's generally associated with crude drawing style and emphasis on smut ("no peak, no point, no meaning"). I've heard about professional BL authors taking offence for people calling their work "yaoi." |
