The price should be mentioned, I think.

Double the memory, double the storage, bring down the price $100, and then we'll talk.

This seems to be the curse of character-branded electronics: they're overpriced, under-specced, and someone will doubtless buy them anyway. Honestly, that $425 is coming pretty close to what one would pay for a Transformer Pad Infinity or Galaxy Note 10.1", both of which are high-end 10" tablets.
Now if they were to sell the Fujita-voiced navigation app on the Play Store, even for $20 or more, I'd likely bite.

There are quite a lot of things that sell well without any rational reason so...
But anyone with a better working mind just buys a tablet based on its specs and reviews. Then just choosing a picture, optionally editting it a bit and printing it on an adhesive foil shouldn't cost you more than a t-shirt print.

It's been said, but it bears saying again: those tech specs suck. Especially that screen: that screen should, from Japan, be at least 1080. It should be at least 720 to be relevant, but yet they made it lower than qHD, which is just downright cruel. They must be getting kickbacks from the eyeglass industry as nothing else explains why a tech-proud nation would use such poor tech in their screen.
Japan should be ashamed: if they keep putting out low products like this, they'll lose their rep as being the most "technologically advanced" nation.
...not that showcasing now-antiquated flip (feature) phones in anime is helping, a pet peeve of mine.

Yeah, those specs are disappointing and it should be at most half the cost or less.

Flip phones have much more utility in Japan since the numpad is definitely more conducive to Japanese character input, and having a tactile surface beats a touch screen. There are Android/smart-flip phones too.

That might be down to what was "state of the art" in phones at the time the series was made. Check the copyright at the end credits. Also as some have already stated, Japan might be a "technological advanced" nation in R&D but surprisingly they're quite slow at mass consumption of that "technological advancement" due to simple costs in their nation. In short, good at inventing it, not good at buying it for themselves.
