I hope to work for ADV and Funimation as an anime dub VA.
One thing I don't know is how much experience I would need to work for them |

First off you need to move to Texas.
Second, conections always help. Third, eather you can act great and match the lip flaps, or you can't. |

This one seems to come up on a regular basis, doesn't it?
Although there are a few classic stories of fanboys-made-good in the world of anime dubbing, VAs for English dubs of anime rarely walk in off the street (at least anymore). Most have substantial backgrounds in theater and/or commercials and at least some formal acting training. Also keep in mind that voice acting is just a side job for a lot of them. The number of English VAs who make a living solely off of voice acting isn't high; maybe as few as 2-3 dozen. Best advice? Take some drama classes and get involved in theater acting. Those kind of creds could certainly help your chances of at least getting an audition. Having connections and living near one of the major centers for anime dubbing (like Houston) also would help a lot. |

I can't remember who said it... might have been Manley... anyway, he said that if you're only looking into voice acting for anime, you aren't really seeing the bigger picture that is acting
If anything, I'm quite sure that a lot of VAs would like to get on TV or something But, I dunno how it goes... seems real complicated |

There was a time where I wanted to be a voice actor... and I'd still love to do that. After getting involved in independent film however, I knew there was much more I wanted to do. This is the reason why I'm going back to school to persue an eventual degree in theatre. If you are serious about getting into acting of any sort, I suggest you get into at least some form of acting classes. |

I am, I will take acting classes, the reason I've yet to is because the one place where I know I can get them is full up (at least for now) and it's the summer holiday |

I've been thinking about doing voice work for some time, and I may very well make it happen. I kinda flopped in my first year of college, so I changed my major from Communication Design to Radio & TV (actually, I screwed up somewhere and never filled out a major change form, so I'm in General Studies taking Radio & TV-themed classes until spaces open up in the fall) for my second year, which starts on the 29th of August. One of my classes is Introduction to the Theatre, which I am looking forward to because it will give me some kind of edge in acting (at least, I hope). I'm not really thinking about an acting career (there's another major for that) but I want to be able to get some kind of experience so I can audition for something. My dream is to be able to move out to LA or Texas, but I'd rather start in New York. Hell, I'd even do stuff for 4Kids if that's all there was. At least it'd be fun. However, this probably won't happen for at least a few years, so I'm not trying to get ahead of myself, but hopefully I'll have a better chance then some guy who's only voice work is doing 30-second Inuyasha fandubs on his computer.
I can start out reading commercial copy like Chris Sabat and hope FUNi picks up something big. Maybe by the time I'm ready, they'll still be doing Naruto in LA. Hey, wait a minute, isn't this the guy who got banned from AoD? Better watch what you do here, GrantM, because unlike Chris and his pals, the mods here are pretty strict. No posting voice mp3s where you drop something and say "Sorry about that little ding there," and all the other nonsense you pulled there. I'm not trying to offend you, I'm just giving you advice. Please don't start a flame war. |

EDIT - I've never heard of that, thanks I'll try it out. Seeing how I got banned from the Voice Acting Alliance forums. I hope I can get back on that soon EDIT - I've got a problem, I can register with it because the registration image I need does not show up |

Grant, you've been all over several forums, and getting banned for this kind of stuff repeatedly.
No one cares. Don't turn this forum into the same BS as the last ones. |

I've been banned from a few forums as well, but only because the mods were overly strict and thought they were gods *coughcoughgundamofficialcoughcough* or everyone there hated anime *coughcoughnewgroundscoughcough*. As for VoiceActing.org, I won't get banned from there (not like anybody ever posts there). |
