I was wondering if people could list some good darker/mature animes. Like EL, gants, hellsing. They don't have to be violent they could be more ominous feeling like whr. Please list some more animes that are similiar to these that i could watch. thnx

Grave of the fireflies and kino's journey would be both draker themed anime. The Kenshin OVA is a bit more on the bloody side of things but it is still worth a veiw (it's is the highest rated anime on ANN!).
I concur with v1cious with now and then, here and there. |

my number 1 vote goes to Berserk... I haven't seen Texhnolyze but I've heard it's quite dark. But Berserk is fabulous if that's what you're looking for. And possibly Princess Miyu, but that really bad in my opinion.

I second Berserk as the all time best mature/dark anime.
I also second Jin Roh. Grave of the Fireflies is great, but very sad. I haven't watched all of Now and Then, Here and There, but it's definitely dark and full of mature themes. I've heard about Elfen Lied. Would anyone whose seen it recommend it under this thread? |

MONSTER! MONSTER! Read all about it! anime#3750
It's just the most brilliant show on right now . . liked by almost everyone that's seen it. Just give the first episode or two a try; that's all you need to see to decide whether you're going to like it or not. Very mysterious, suspenseful, dark, and moving . . |

This is definitely a dark title, I would recommend it. I would also recommend Boogiepop Phantom. Fairly dark and eerie at times. Only problem is it can be hard to follow, so you gotta pay attention. |

kite is also a dark anime movie. kind of ecchi in some parts (enough to get it placed in the adult section in most online anime stores), but very VERY good.

Petite Cosstte.
Nothing is darker than a gothic loli (and some seriously screwed up imagery ala Soultaker)! |

If you want dark, Bible Black.

Yes watch Monster. It is far superior to Berserk or any other named show . And even though it's incomplete, it's easily one of the best anime ever.

X--TV, Blue Gender (Starship Troopers like), Wolf's Rain have some very mature themes in an apocalyptic sense.
Kino's Journey (lots of disguised real world stuff) is a very restrained dark, kind like a fine wine, as is Gasaraki (Geo-politics and supernatural). In both of latter cases, they are not to the taste of everybody. Also I recomend and like the original Miyu OAV, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal are two OAV's that come to mind. Macross 0, though not released in the states is another. Finally, I second Jin-Roh and Kite. The opening seen in Jin-Roh is based off a RL event even though it's set in an alternate world. All the Best, Nani? |
