Hmmmm...
Can anyone give me a legitimate answer as to why the dvds for One Piece are being cranked out soooo slowly. The newly released Season 3 of One Piece ends at episode 156, yet, checking ANN's encyclopedia states that One Piece is at episode 470. My point is that, isn't OP a very old show. It premiered in the u.s.a. like 12 years ago! Shouldn't the dvd releases be at a higher episode count by now? Shouldn't it be at around, at the very least, episode 300 or somethin' by now? Is it just me who's wondering this? Is it just me who is perplexed by this? If the hold up is the english dubbing...why would it take that long to get more dubbed episodes? It's been 12 years already since it premiered here. |

I'm pretty sure Funimation is spreading out the releases to maximize the amount of sales they receive. Typically, people save up to purchase anime so they need to be given ample time to save up and they have to consider the sales of their other titles cause if people buy one they are usually skipping out on another. I'm not sure if this is an exact reason but I think it plays a part in their release plans.
Oh, if your talking about the US, One Piece first aired in 2004 on fox and then ran on the Cartoon network in 2005 as a 4kids release (which was awful). Funimation didn't get the rights to it until 2007 and then began releasing box sets in 2008. With that said, I do hope they speed up the releases. lol |

It started airing in Japan less than 11 years ago. You're getting premiere dates mixed up.

ah..i see. i just remembered wrong, thats all. but regardless, what about Naruto. didn't Naruto get aired/liscensed around the same as one piece? in october of 2010 with the release of naruto shippuden season 4, the episode count is around 300+. i refer to all dvd naruto releases from season 1 of naruto box set--to naruto shippuden season 4 box set. that is 300+ episodes released in the u.s. for naruto, while one piece is only at episode 156 counting last episode of the newly released season 3 part 1. that is the point i'm trying to make here. or better put, the question i'm asking. |

Naruto's total for episodes released in R1 is 259. The gap isn't as big as you think it is. |

The chief difference with One Piece's release schedule is that Funimation went through and redubbed everything that 4Kids did. So really, you may as well say it was licensed in 2007, which is a few years after Naruto was.

I'm going to start getting this show from funimation. I heard great things about this show. How many dvds are there total out in america not including the movies? Also are the movies part of the show? Do they like continue into the show or do the show continue into the movies? Also what is better the movies or the show? and because i'm new to this series and i'm gonna invest a lot of money into this show where do the movies take place after which episodes of the show? Thanks I wanna collect everything to this show and I don't know where the movies take place in.

There's about 16 boxed sets. Although, season 3 parts 4 and 5 aren't out yet. So really there's 14 that are physically out. I don't own the dvds, but I own good chunk of the manga series, I've been watching from the beginning of the series on Hulu. I haven't seen any of the movies and I haven't been confused one bit. So the movies have no effect on the series. Besides, I think movie 8 is the only one that has been brought over. |

No, he was correct. Only the Alabasta movie (#8) is licensed by FUNimation.

This is the only movie shown on the English official page of One Piece:
EDIT: They generally release a One Piece movie every year. So more or less every 50 episodes is when the movie came out. Of course, some of them are recap (like the Alabasta and Chopper movies). movie 1 = 50, movie 2 = 100, movie 3 = 150, etc. |
