It isn't normally my thing but earlier this week I started watching To Love Ru and, well. It is sort of like sacrificing IQ points in exchange for a little diversion. But it made me think of this question and I remember wondering the same thing when years ago I encountered Najica and Aika.
What are female-fans' reactions to this kind of fan service? I don't know any fangirls to ask. From what I read a lot of girls watch this kind of anime but do they enjoy this for-boys stuff? So on scale of 1 to 10 what do you think? Say 1 is "excuse me I need to go puke now" and 10 is "ok I'm ready to do it doesn't matter who with." |

Usually I avoid these shows unless I've heard really good things about them, but either way when I start watching them my attention span usually gives them a good 10-20 minutes before I can't take anymore.
Does Daphne in the Brilliant Blue count as this sort of anime? Because that was the last random thing I encountered on ADV's On Demand service that I barely got to the 2nd episode with. I'm fine with fan service as long as there's an interesting story and characters they can give me. If they don't give me any of those in the first 10-20 minutes I go bye bye. |

Not a girl-type (sorry) but I've always sort of assumed that the average female would feel about male-targeted ecchi the way your average, straight male would feel about BL. (Oh and by the way, I totally see how you are using this so-called innocent question as a way of identifying freak-ay anime chicks - kudos!

Hmm, I'm not sure you're going to get a really accurate sampling of opinions as a lot of people (myself included) probably can already tell that x series is not going to be their cup o' tea and therefore just skip it entirely. There are lots of series I'd probably dislike if I were somehow forced to watch them but since no one's twisting my arm, I just ignore them. And I don't feel qualified to rate something I haven't seen (and probably never will see).

I, personally, rather enjoy the fanservice types of anime. I'd say about a 7, though I can agree with losing brain cells at times.
But it's really bouncy. ![]() Or panty-licious... Then again I am an odd sort of girl critter I guess. |

I basically think of things like that as pornography without the sex (so much), and being on the subject of pornography--do whatever ya want, just keep me out of it.
I know, that if this were a male-harem type show, I'd be all over it (because I am attracted to males). Along the same token, if I were a male (or female) attracted to females, I would probably love it. As long as it doesn't change your mode of thinking and severely disrupt your psycho-sexual processing (so much that you'll never be able to get off unless it's with a bouncy, busty, animated woman), I'm fine with it. But like I said before--keep it away from me. Because that might severely disrupt your physio-sexual functioning, if you get my drift. |

BL isn't the best term. If there's one thing to compare to BL, that thing is GL(yes, Aoi Hana for one). I'd say that what women think of fanservice directed at men is the same as what we men think of fanservice aimed at women. I guess the best examples would be having a male character stripping. Not saying that Hetalia Axis does that(I don't watch it), but I guess that it's the best anime I could think which shows fanservice for females. |

Girl-type critters? I love it! There are several icebreakers that can be made from those words.
Honestly, if I met a girl that was an anime fan and liked ecchi, I have to assume she'd be a keeper. There would be nothing more awesome than watching Ikki Tousen or Agent Aika with a girl-type critter (except maybe getting said girl-type critter to squeeze into those "God" panties from Shuffle! ![]() ![]()
I see what you did there. You're a feisty one. |

I think you are missing the point. BL *is* fan service aimed at women. I'm not saying all females dig it, I'm just saying that the overwhelming majority of the audience that consumes BL is female. I've never checked out any BL, but if I did, I imagine I would be by turns bored, irritated and skeeved out. My assumption is that that is the same reaction a lot of females have to ecchi. |

Working under the assumption that GL is also fanservice? That doesn't make much sense. Like saying that a normal romance within any series is also fanservice. BL is generally a series' set-up, just like any other, but if they pointlessly show the character having their sexual intercourse then that's the fanservice; not the whole genre itself. I did watch one single BL and it was fairly good. I wouldn't call it fanservice since it did provide a good story and plot, but the scenes showing the two leads kissing and overly thinking about each other would be what I consider the fanservice.
Perhaps I'm still missing the point, but that's what I consider BL. It doesn't attract me; neither does GL. |

Yes, you are still missing the point and I truly despair of making you understand so I won't bother. I suspect other people will get what I'm driving at.

Well, I'm not really a big fan of fanservice in general (the IN YOUR FACE type)
Whether it be aimed at guys or girls. I just find it cheap and corny most of the time when trying to attract the viewer's attention ![]() So I usually try to stay out of that kind of stuff. But I go with what Blood- says. That's pretty much it. I mean, I'm not going to enjoy a movie as much as my boyfriend if we go to watch some macho-action flick with half-naked chicks with guns running around. I'll be bored & irritated since I'm not the target audience. But really, it all depends on personal taste. I can't speak for every girl. I'm that hopeless? Out of many things, I never thought I were considered hardheaded around here. Maybe what you're trying to say isn't exactly something solid and firm, but in reality the fading shade of a point waiting to be grabbed before it completely disappears; if that's the case, I'm probably grabbing it right now. But, before assuming the most obvious possibility it's always best to confirm the alternative possibilities before coming to a conclusion. Oh, the fruits of the pointlessness this pointless phase creates. |

*It's different if someone is expected to review something; then she/he is just stuck and should write an honest review. They can take the bullet so the rest of us don't have to.

Loveless. I still eagerly await a sequel. The plot and story are interesting, and I thought the BGM played during battles was great. Well, as long as there's a story and plot, I see BL as any other anime containing an usual couple.
