While watching Shaman King this morning I noticed that I had heard a song they were using somewhere before. If you were watching, it was the song they'd play whenever the worshippers were gathering around that girl - I think she was supposed to be singing it. If you weren't watching it, I don't blame you.
Anyway, I just tracked down where I heard it before - it's the first minute of Silent Life from .hack//SIGN (track 18 of the first OST). I got my ipod and the VCR tape to play it at the same time to be sure; it almost even sounds like the same voice. So I was wondering if anyone knew - does Shaman King have the same composer of .hack//SIGN? Or is this song some kind of common property thing in Japan, like the National Anthem, where you don't have to pay anyone royalties to use it? Thanks! |

Well let's see. I haven't seen any of Shaman King, but looking at the Encyclopedia entry, the composer for the original Japanese score is Toshiyuki Omori, who is NOT Yuki Kajiura (composer of .hack//SIGN).
However, if you're talking about the 4Kids version, the 13 composers (  ?!) they have aren't Yuki Kajiura either. So my guess is it's either a coincidence that those 4Kids composers have a similiar style to Yuki Kajiura, or they've just violated copyright.
